I'm starting to think that Coates is a plant. I've NEVER used that term ever but this nikka just rubs me all types of the wrong way
So we swappin' sharecroppin' for cum swappin'
I mean...
There's gotta be another way to get the Gold
They had Denzel heel turn for it in Training Day
They had Halle show her Meats
But when does it end.
Why can't a movie just be good without having an agenda
Movie could legit be greatI'm starting to think that Coates is a plant. I've NEVER used that term ever but this nikka just rubs me all types of the wrong way
I've noticed it too.I'm starting to think that Coates is a plant. I've NEVER used that term ever but this nikka just rubs me all types of the wrong way
@Poitier, I think I'm going to have to file paperwork on TNC. Something hasn't been right as of late...
Movie could legit be great
However, that comment is
I don't give a fukk if it's Gay Shakespeare. Calling it the defining portrait of black male masculinity EVER is both revolting and offensive. Especially in a world where The Birth Of A Nation, about a REAL LIFE black male hero is out.

I think Hidden Figures might get a lot of awards season love too.Yeah, I think this and Fences gonna be the Black movies getting shine Oscar season. Birth of Nation not so much.

I can understand Coates saying its a very good movie. It def looks good, based on the trailer. But the best take on black masculinity ever?
That's...a very bold statement to make.
The film’s insistence on nuance is what Ta-Nehisi Coates admires most about it. “Barry has this ability to capture black folks in their ordinariness, without making statements or declarations,” Coates tells me. “So often art about blackness or LGBT issues engages in this debate about whether we’re human or not — and Barry just steps right past that. He’s saying it’s not an argument worth having. He tells the viewer you have to accept this. You have to accept that they’re human.”
For Jenkins, this was a crucial part of the film’s project. “I want to create productive images, not necessarily positive images,” he says. “Overt positivity can sometimes deflect attention away from the problem, or create myths that aren’t helpful. The way I described it to the actors was, ‘Everything in this movie is a gray area. The characters are gray, the situations are gray.’ There’s some very dark shyt in this movie, but you have to acknowledge the ugliness. You just have to.”
From the article.
Might need to make a thread on TLR when the movie drops.
Director says really interesting things in that article.
Might be an incredibly well made movie, but still unsure about Coates going that far with the comments.
Sidenote: Haven't seen anything from Coates about Birth of a Nation yet..
