When business overshadowed talent is when hip hop started it's decline...

exactly bruh, everybody talking about sales and "relevance" is on some follower shyt. a lot of talent gets overlooked in favor of whats popular and what everyone else is playing. it is what it is nowadays

fans want to act like they know it all, but for the most part, theyre really just vibing off of what the next man already set up for them. but then with no real standards, the whole thing becomes in control of the media more than anything else.

Like back in the day, it was catered to the 30 and over crowd or somethin'...

back in the day, it was growing up with the majority of the audience. it was a younger, newer culture. and it was more diverse at the same time. but you cant say that about today. and the fact that people want it to be stagnant and one tracked is not a good sign.

Fans being fickle is a problem, but lets not act like white people trying to merge rap with pop music and coming online pretending to be black but saying shyt like "its good the streets are being phased out of hip hop" isnt part of the problem as well :usure:

 This is the problem.

Lil nikkas with no history dictating what's supposed to be hot. Then you have the cynical adults in the "industry" exploiting these lil nikkas for a quick buck cause they realize the fans are retarded and eat that shyt up.

Hip Hop was never ALL ABOUT being young. It was about skills. PERIOD.

The hottest shyt out was made by GROWN MEN when Hip Hop blew up. "The Message" was a song about GROWN MAN problems and it changed music forever.

I don't care if you're 12 or 33, if you making hits then you get a pass. Nobody gets an automatic pass just cause they were born in a specific time frame, that shyt is bass ackwards.

Rappers are getting younger and younger. Plus they fukkin bytches and bussin they guns at age 13 now. Lill Bow Wow is no longer the exception he's the rule these days.

So now are you telling me that you're 13 or younger? :troll:

If not you need to keep your opinion to yourself cause uhhh

:flabbynsick:

obviously back in the early 80's it wasn't, but music evolves.

as music grows it becomes popular, popular music is always catered to the youth. Whatever is hot atm receives hate from old timers saying how it isn't up to the same standards as what they grew up on. Everyone had that old guy on their block preaching about todays rappers aint shyt compared to what they grew up on, whether you were bumping the roc, gunit, dipset, whatever. Now the tables turned and folk sitting on the coli looking real :flabbynsick: talmbout back in the day

Its a constant cycle and for some reason with all of the analysis the geniuses on the coli do, they can't realize it

I dont think that point is missed. I really dont. I think what youre missing, is that youre talking like they dont know better or have any idea what theyre speaking on.

the trouble is when the honesty, the social commentary, and the balance of our communities is lost. when only pop, and "relevency" is talked about for meaningless joints, we lose a sense of what hip hop is, and become mini accountants for the mcs. thats what the main problem is.

if you were to stay stuck on peter pan mode, yeah you gonna act the same as you did in the 80s and 90s. if you think its dumb to hear young fans turning into junior a&rs, judging whats relevant by whats popular, and then even your own telling you that growth shouldnt happen, then the shyt starts to look real stupid right about now :upsetfavre:

I hate when people try to compare hiphop to other genres as if we need to be more like them:snoop:...there is no other genre like hiphop nikkas....there's no other genre where a artist could be hot as hell to one part of the country and considered a legend, but they get a lukewarm reception in other parts of the country...imagine R Kelly only being hot in the midwest or Usher only in the south:laff:.

No other genre built on competetion where the object is to show you are the best and the other nikkas is wack and washed up.....Jodeci ain't comin into the game talkin down on New Edition tryna prove to the public they better and tell fans why New Edition should be obsolete.

Hiphop is a genre based off doing young nikka shyt, and the further u get away from the young nikka shyt the less you will enjoy what's current, and at the same time even the shyt u thought sounded cool as a young nikka will either stop sounding as cool or it certainly won't sound cool coming from the nikka older than you who made it sound cool to you when you were young:mindblown:....the gift and the curse of bein a hiphop fan:manny: but its a great ride while it last....but unfortunatly its not based off content made to be completely timeles in most cases.

I havent bought an album in a long time. I really play older music or no music at all. I find myself here on occassion to say what it was back then and where it was going. but its not important enough to me that I build my life around it.

I thought that sooner or later wed adapt and make hip hop an important cnn and make bigger moves on the field. now its really just full on jerry springer shyt. all for the ratings and attention

It's true these young rap fans do not respect Hip-Hop legends.

Rolling Stones going on their gazillionth tour next year, and they've been rocking on for an eternity.

I see the Almighty Wu and Nasir Jones still touring at Jaggers age :jawalrus:

Actually it seems like rappers now are older. Mainly cause the level of grinding/competition that's been established. Cats gotta grind for some years now. In the 80s dudes like LL, Rakim, Kane, etc was getting on at 17 & 18, or at least before 21. Now we got rappers like Ross & 2 Chainz hitting they strides in they 30s. Even Ye, 50 & Jeezy got on their late 20s.

But on topic, yeah most youngbloods don't respect the old school. I guess because of the nature of the genre.
