hip hop fans are childish and fickle

This is the REAL reason.

Any culture that doesn't respect its history won't last.

Today's hip-hop fan doesn't think the past is relevant enough to matter, and ignorantly tries to downplay the contributions of past greats.

Also, these young kids have followed the 50 Cent model and think that if you're not in the Top 10 on the rap charts, you're irrelevant, which shrinks the artist pool of the culture.

And so, here we are....

biggie actually started all that. he said that since hes selling the most in his city, that made him the king of ny. now rappers were coming left and right dissing him and throwing shots (nas, bcc, jeru, rae and ghost, roots) but he cemented his position by not directly dissing back and claiming his sales were his bragging rights. he learned from diddy, and jay learned from big. and 50 learned from jay. :shaq2:

:comeon:

Biggie never got on the radio, reading names off the Billboard Top 20 list and calling the rappers on it "irrelevant" live on the air.

:what: thats not the point. the point was that biggie talking about being on top because of his sales. biggie emphasized in the source magazine that hes the king of ny due to his sales and "bringing the east back" - because the west coast and death row and been multi platinum for years while nas and them went gold.

No, that IS the point.

Why? Because nobody even REMEMBERS Biggie bein' on some "you're irrelevant because I sell more than you" shyt, at least not on the level that 50 did it.

I'll bet if you polled this site (even though that's :rudy: in and of itself), I'll bet you'd see that most people don't ascribe that sensibility to Biggie, man. That's all Fif's doing.

So I see what you're saying, but....no.

that doesnt change anything. Im telling you who started it, and not who went on radio following someone else blueprint. youre arguing that the fans here dont remember everything because they werent there, but I was, so I know. see 50 didnt start that shyt, so dont give him credit for that. he was always following up jay, and jay was following up to biggie.

as for people not ascribing biggie to that, how do you think he managed to dodge direct disses from other artists while calling himself the king? he said that abut his position and his sales, and everyone around in hip hop heard that. puffy followed up with the "we're going to keep making money while you hate." it was all about sales for bad boy.

Homie you ain't "tellin'" me NOTHIN', because you're fukking WRONG. I was there, too, and Biggie NEVER made other rappers out to be "beneath him" because of sales to the point where he belittled them OUTSIDE of doing so on a record.

It's one thing to talk shyt about sales and prowess on a record....but to go to a radio station and start reading rappers' names off Billboard and calling them out for their sales is an entirely different animal. And Biggie NEVER did anything that arrogantly self-aggrandizing. AND, you really can't even point to any noted instances where he did except reference some vague interview that you can't even prove existed.

FURTHER, you're not even sticking to my original point, which is that today's kids followed the 50 Cent model (e.g., the radio station incident and thinking sales matter). You're talmbout "Biggie started that", but kids today don't do it because of BIGGIE. They do that because of CURTIS.

youre arguing that the fans here dont remember everything because they werent there, but I was, so I know. see 50 didnt start that shyt, so dont give him credit for that. he was always following up jay, and jay was following up to biggie.

:rudy:

No, that's NOT what I was arguing, and that's part of your problem, you're trying to dictate to me what I was saying and you don't even have a cogent grasp of what I was saying.

You know what, dawg...nevermind. Just drop it. :snoop:

I'm tired of arguing with nikkas on here today.

so you dont like that 50 called people out. okay, but his stance was the same as those before him. he didnt start that, puffy started all that shyt.

as for biggie, check the sources, and vibes from 95. that shyt was before the internet homie. you trying to say you knew but obviously you dont.

This and every other hiphop forum on the net is predominantly white. Alot of these posters u run into online like hiphop, but its probably not their first choice of musical genre. Therefore its hard to take the opinion of the typical internet fan seriously when it comes to hiphop. A prime example would be that Needledrop dude.....anybody who GREW UP listening to hiphop can tell this dude doesnt understand the culture and is also not qualified to rate the music.

This is the problem with any artform that African Americans create, as soon as whites catch on and start liking it, its only a matter of time before that artform dies. Therefore its impossible to compare rock fans to hiphop fans, unless of course ur looking at rock music as a precursor for what hiphop is slowly turning into. If the number of whites equaled the number of blacks in this country then Bruce springsteen wouldnt be eating how he is right now. There are more white hiphop "fans" than there are black ppl in this country, its silly to expect a race of ppl who are outnumbered like that to support their artists equally. Point of this long rant is that alot of u get ur opinions about hiphop fans from internet message boards even though these ppl ur blogging with dont have hiphop as a first love to begin with. The internet is not an accurate way to judge the TRUE fans of the genre

Interesting perspective. Another facet to this is that white hip hop fans tend to "grow out" of hip hop. As a white hip hop head for the past twenty years, I can tell you there is tremendous societal pressure on white hip hop fans to stop listening. Basically, white people feel free to say the most racist shyt about hip hop, things they would never say to African-Americans, to white hip hop fans. If white hip hop fans remained interested into their 40s and 50s, maybe KRS would be able to tour like the Rolling Stones.

 This is the problem.

Lil nikkas with no history dictating what's supposed to be hot. Then you have the cynical adults in the "industry" exploiting these lil nikkas for a quick buck cause they realize the fans are retarded and eat that shyt up.

Hip Hop was never ALL ABOUT being young. It was about skills. PERIOD.

The hottest shyt out was made by GROWN MEN when Hip Hop blew up. "The Message" was a song about GROWN MAN problems and it changed music forever.

I don't care if you're 12 or 33, if you making hits then you get a pass. Nobody gets an automatic pass just cause they were born in a specific time frame, that shyt is bass ackwards.

Rappers are getting younger and younger. Plus they fukkin bytches and bussin they guns at age 13 now. Lill Bow Wow is no longer the exception he's the rule these days.

So now are you telling me that you're 13 or younger? :troll:

If not you need to keep your opinion to yourself cause uhhh
