Some sources said they expect the 49ers to have a new coach early next week. Jackson and Chip Kelly, whom general manager Trent Baalke and CEO Jed York interviewed on Thursday, appear to be the top two candidates. Anthony Lynn had a good interview, according to sources, and the 49ers would like to speak with Dirk Koetter, too.


Kaepernick’s scheduled pay of $13.4 million is not as steep as it sounds. The 49ers received an approximate $3 million credit on his 2015 pay after he went on injured reserve in November. The 49ers also have tons of available salary-cap space. The 49ers own Kaepernick's rights, of course, and the new coach will ultimately make that call.

Kaepernick's relationship with the 49ers front office, including general manager Trent Baalke, appears to be fractured. But this is all about the new coach and Kaepernick. A source said the 49ers are leaving the door open for Kaepernick's return, but he would have to “rebuild relationships in the locker room.:

Please no Chip Kelly. Would be a huge mistake. I like Jackson all the way. Hopefully 49ers just cut ties with Kaep. He is another RG3. He is not going to get better.

Kaep had some really bad games and it was later founded that he was injured. 9ers shouldn't just dump him for Gabbert.

He can work on a lot of other things with Warner, i don't think Warner is some mechanics coach.

I don't think he deserves another shot because he is not worth his value. Like I said, take his 14m a year, split it and give it to two other postion players, and insert Gabbert and tell me the team isn't better.

The team already played better under Gabbert this season, more wins, more ppg, more passing yards.

And i`m not even for Gabbert like that, i`m for not paying 14m for a guy i`m certain isn't a franchise QB, i`m for paying a guy 2m who can do the job better than t he 14 m option, and looking for a real franchise QB elsewhere, whether it be 2016 draft or 2017 draft.

Give me two of these, 7m WR,,OL,LB,CB, DL and let Kaep go, and i`m certain this team is better.

Meh. Every OC calls bad plays from time to time. We should know in the game winning drive of the super bowl. But don't have to worry about Jackson too much because rumor his he likes Cleveland over the 49ers.

this isnt much different than Gase, except Koetter has more experience

We need to hit this hire right and let the next head coach cook for at least 5 years I'm tired of the coaching carousel the NFL has become 2-3 years you out the door how do you implement your system or get players for your system in that time frame.

I'm tired of this trend as well as the QB carousel, teams stay on a treadmill running thru QB's every two years feeling entitled to finding the next Peyton or Brady...get your ass a Flacco and win! And stop thinking these dudes just have to start out the gate,

They gave Gase control over the whole roster in Miami.
