I'm tossing the mashed potatoes and stuffing. We eat dressing, that stuffing shyt gets no play in the south. And yes, there is a difference.

Not eating yams this year cuz we got 3 sweet potato pies

Mashed potatoes just don't go on a black table for Thanksgiving. Never seen that.

:dwillhuh: I thought stuffing and dressing were the same thing?

:damn: Wtf is going on?!?!?
Lmao

The one glaring technical difference I found between the two is how they're cooked. According to most dictionaries, stuffing is defined as “a mixture used to stuff another food, traditionally poultry, before cooking.” Whereas dressing is cooked in a pan outside of the turkey cavity.Nov 8, 2016

Do Southerners say dressing or stuffing?
Well, in 19th-century America, a dressed turkey often had dressing in it. You with us so far? Over time, Americans lost their prudishness and went back to referring to dressing as stuffing—for the most part. In the American South, some ambiguity remains around the term.

I say stuffing, even if it’s not “stuffed” in the turkey
