The Rucker
We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew black-hearted
Thinkin' back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned so in turn I'm kidnappin' his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feedin' her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shytty so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
I kept feeding her money 'til her shyt started to make sense
Who could ever forsee?
We used to stay up all night at slumber parties
Now I'm tryna rock his bytch to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears
Know she wishin' we were still close
Don't cry, it is to be
In time, I'll take away your miseries
And make it mine, D'Evils

The Rucker
Was thought to be a pleasant guy all my fukkin' life
So now I'm down for whatever, ain't nothin' nice
Throughout my junior high years it was all friendly
But now this higher learning got the Remy in me
Liquors invaded my kidneys
Got me ready to lick off, mama forgive me

Most forced masterpiece in hip hop history.

Very good album but it was just another dope album in 96. Mightnt make my top 10 that year.

Didn't change the game in any meaningful way.

Couple of filler joints on there too.

Another person that doesn't know shyt about rap

nothing is a classic when it was first released it has to pass the test of time

Reasonable Doubt was a slept on, most people didn't even hear it when it was released, Jay-Z didn't even get mainstream noticed until his 3rd album

It's a masterpiece of the quality of tracks not because what people thought about in 96

dead presidents is one of my favorite beats of all time
Same here. Back when I used to write on the regular that was the beat that was in my head the majority of the time.

As far as this album I missed it and didn't hear it until Volume 2 dropped. I remembered hyping volume 1 and 2 and how dope Jay was. He asked if I heard Reasonable Doubt and told me that was doper than those. I finally listened and was blown away and it instantly became my favorite just because it was more raw than the others and I was huge into lyrics at the time. In the midwest Reasonable Doubt didn't really register like those others albums.

Legendary shyt. Some people slept. I did not. In fairness though it did go Gold and the "Dead Presidents" Single also went Gold and "Ain't No nikka" was a dope song and really helped Foxy blow. Going to be bumping this all day. Still sounds great. This is what Timeless music is. It doesn't age, it's not dated. It's just Classic Sh!t. Of course "Dead Presidents" was just too Epic but so was "BK Finest", "Feelin It" and "Can I Live". Loved "Can't Knock the Hustle" and the remix was dope too. Just the whole album was fire. You can play it straight through.

Favorite Jay-z album but I see why some people, especially those who experienced it in real time, don't carry it like a classic album. Pretty much nobody did, until Jay-z became Jay-z

Great album that was appreciated much later

but in 1996 nobody heard of Jay Z until Tupac dissed him on Makaveli
