One thing that sucks about a lot of recent NY production is the lack of any ommph. Yea dudes are putting together great samples and drums, but it rarely gives me the same "snap ya neck back" thump you hear in a lot of 80s and 90s shyt. The funk is gone, I guess

So simlple yet so ahead of its time. That low filter bass technique is a straight up GEM from the 90s. Some shyt that you had to be in the loop to understand. Its ironic cause I just was taught about that method last night.

Ski beats did that shyt for Jay-z on Reasonable Doubt too

I would luv for Marley Marl to release full versions of those unreleased LL vocals.

From that tiny preview, looks like LL was going in (Ether) style on Moe Dee.

Dude said take off your shades when u are facing God. :krs:

yep, and I was trying to explain that shyt to cats that were talking shyt about how some old songs were "straight loops"

edit: here it is

I think RZA made that beat with an EPS or SP1200. some cats still prefer those old machines. there's also work that goes into making the bass sound like that. it's not just EQ'ing. I know a lot of cats filter it out with a low-pass, or something similar, and then play it back over the sample. I don't know if you want to call that a "straight loop"
