It was always a shame that Owen Hart didn't get more play in Attitude Era Main Event scene before he passed away. There was an easy babyface feud with DX and Vince to get revenge for what happened in Montreal.

He also could've made an incredible heel for Austin. McMahon could've turned to Owen, in his war with Austin. Playing off Owen breaking his neck back in 1997, making Owen Vince's best option to take the belt off Austin and possibly get rid of him for good. The story would been so easy to do.

lol @ bob holly, bob holly doesnt main event indy shows

I always thought Holly was just a gimmick away from a major push. Like I said, if they would have thought of the Marine Superhero gimmick in the attitude era he could have easily done what Cena does :yeshrug:

Monty Brown, like I said his move was over not that much different from Sheamus and his kick :yeshrug:

Lance Storm was cooking with Team Canada dont act like he wasnt :comeon:

Kane was NEVER a Main Eventer. He is simply food for the top face in those situations. You call holding the belt for 24 hours before Austin squashed him a run? :wtf:

Good discussion though :salute2:

I've been thinking of this lately. Feel free to discuss/add on.
  • Scott Hall: mic skills, legit 6'7, was just "cool" face or heel
  • William Regal: technical beast, great character, worked in the ring as well as a out of ring character
  • Monty Brown: the pounce was hugely over in its day
  • Lance Storm: enough said
  • Owen Hart: enough said
  • Bob Holly: could easily see him being the one doing the Marine gimmick if he was younger
  • Kane: 1996 version today would be the top heel in the business

Agreed on Hall, Regal, Hart, and Kane.

Monty Brown was a terrible worker who could only cut one promo.

Storm would need a proper gimmick written for him to be a main eventer. He couldn't do it purely on his own.

And no, Holly could absolutely not do what Cena does. Not then, not now, not ever.

Kerry Von Erich

Since when is Kerry von Erich considered a "midcarder?" He beat Ric Flair for the NWA title back in 84 when it still mattered. Just because the WWF didn't use him properly, doesn't mean he's a mid-carder.

The problem with Perfect is that his finisher didn't "hurt" anyone.

No one believed that a hold based on leverage could defeat a monster (Hogan) who could just flex and break the hold.

Plus, Vince didn't respect technical wrestling. If not for Bret Hart a long line of technical wrestlers would still be viewed as IC/US level talent.

Perfect got big at the wrong time, but his talent transcends era. And I loved the fact that he was serious as a heart attack yet cool as a mu'fuxa. (Of topic, but imagine Henning and Rude as a tag team.)

WAAAAAY too much bullshyt involved in Owen's situation for this to happen. Austin wasn't ever going to work with him after how the SummerSlam situation went down. Add to that the fact that Owen was essentially used as a hostage to piss off Bret after the Montreal Screwjob, and there was literally zero chance that he was getting a shot at the main event at that time.

Even if he did have that chance, consider the landscape. Austin was the #1 babyface. DX turned babyface soon after WrestleMania XIV. Kane and Undertaker were Austin's next major feuds and The Rock was Triple H's next major feud. Where was there any room for Owen to get his shot? He wouldn't have had a chance until late 1999 and probably couldn't have held it until, what, late 2000 (around the time Kurt Angle won the belt for the first time)?

He should have held the belt at least once, but after the Screwjob, the opportunity really wasn't going to be there for him.

Don't tease us.

Hardcore Holly vs. Brock Lesnar - YouTube

Absofukkinglutely not.

The fact that you're comparing John Cena to Thurman Sparky Plugg is the grossest insult one could ever measure toward Cena.

Ridiculous. :beli:

Yeah, but Kerry also dropped the belt back to Flair within three weeks, and mostly won it out of tribute to David. His drug issues were so bad, he wasn't viewed as reliable because he'd miss appearances and stuff like that. This is why in any place other than World Class, he wasn't given the ball. He had the charisma and physicality to be a top guy, but his personal shyt did him in. Only place he could get away with that was where his father ran shyt.

Ok I'll give ya'll Holly as a career midcarder :to:

Let me throw out another name..... Tazz? :merchant:

Came into WWE hyped but soon fell down the card like DDP, Raven, etc. If he debuted today would he have a spot at the top?

whoooo.... He and the fans would hold that one legit win over Triple H's head..... Triple H wouldn't be able to bury him no matter HOW hard he tried!

Alex Wright/Dolph Ziggler.... feuding over who's the more perfect showoff!

Feuding over AJ with DBry!!

okay, maybe scratch that last part.
