A fairly simple explanation people seem to be over looking is the labels he was on (Cold Chillin', Illstreet/Downlow) in his prime folded very early. Meaning, there was no one to pay RIAA for the audit that would even check if he was gold/plat.

Only the absolute top tier rappers were going platinun before 1997.

thats moreso an east coast thing. lower-tier rappers from other regions where bootlegging isnt as heavy, were going platinum left & right.

and i wasnt ranking top-tier rappers. all im saying is raekwon & ghostface were never top-sellers.

There's no doubt he would have gone gold had Rawkus not fukked over his Giancana Story album back in '01. The buzz around him and that album at the time was crazy. He signed a million dollar deal, was getting crazy promotion, and the lead single was radio accessible and dope at the same time.

I actually never really got into Black Thought that much. Which Roots Album should I start with?
He's ALWAYS been nice. Start with the first and move forward. Lot of material. He got a ton of material on YouTube as well. He has always made me question Nas GOAT status.

I'll be 41 August 7th. He is older, more mature and seasoned and is one of the reasons I don't mind listening to hip hop
