He was a head of his time....I was 11-14 yrs old during his run so I got nothing bad to say about him...we just grew up and Dre and Snoop came thru and changed the game for us young hip hop fans of that time period...it was cringe worthy when he went gangsta tho...but low key that 94 album wasn't too bad

They made Vanilla Ice BECAUSE of Hammer :snoop:

Anyhoo..

Hammer was the sell out that you loved!

The 1st rapper to go Diamond!

1st rapper with a commercial endorsements(the sell out)!

1st rapper to fall off in a major way!

Fukk what you heard.

When Hammer came on stage, you wound up dancing wherever you stood!

Edit:Puffy patterned his whole steez off the West coast :manny:

I dont even think you understand what you are saying in terms of calling Hammer the Black Vanilla Ice when in actuality, Vanilla Ice was the white Hammer. :picard:

He was huge..incited a lot of jealousy and hate.
Hammer had been doing the same music with them Oakland chicks long before Please Hammer Dont Hurt Em blew..when he suddenly hit the jackpot because of a massive single but still doing the same thing, the success was too much for some people.
Then they said Hammer wasn't hardcore:mjlol:
Said he was wack and couldn't rap:russ:

I just think Hammer being the 2nd goat dancer was a big factor too.

He was so big I remeber they stopped regular tv to premier a music video from him (I think it was 2 Legit to Quit) - Only saw that with Michael Jackson nobody else in history.

Could you imagine Fox or NBC pausing for 15 minutes to air a Beyoncé or Drake 15 music video?

Ummm..Hammer came out in 88'

What was Puff doin in 88'?

in college traveling back & forth to nyc on the weekends to intern at Uptown Records

and for the record - i shouldnt have said way before Hammer
cause it looks more like they got into the industry roughly the same time
BUT
lets be clear - Hammer aint influenced puff at all
Hammer was considered a complete clown & represented everything non hip-hop

Yeah clean that shyt up, breh! lol

Nicca was a promoter at Howard while Hammer was making his rounds breh.

Not to mention, Puff followed suit and picked up where Hammer left off..

Hammer was a clown, yet paved the way for people like Puff to be what he is today.

If you're in your 30s, chances are Hammer was your first fav rapper

I was 6-8 during his prime

Low key we were into Vanilla Ice too but that ended quick

Before we knew it though, that era faded

Then 92-93 hit, us 7 yr olds became 10 yr olds and the Chronic dropped and it was a WRAP

At his height his fanbase was us kids and our parents who knew he was made safe music. The teens I knew like my big sister and older cousins couldn’t stand dude

this....kids/my parents/grandparents loved hammer. My mom/grandparents compared him to james brown/mj because of his dancing/stageshow.

And this was Hammers goal.

He aspired to be more than just a rapper.

I believe mentioned wanting to be remembered with the likes of James Brown, MJ, and Fred Astaire, which he's accomplished.
