imo, he wasn't even the best receiver on his own team in that era (john stallworth).

that was my next post, and in the grand scheme of his offense he was probably the 5th best player after Webster/Harris/Bradshaw/Stallworth.

then you get Mel Blount and that D involved, and he was not a top 12 player on his team. great team? amazing teams, but i think you could have plugged a number of his peers in his spot and gotten equal or better return

His numbers say no but 4 SB rings and some of the most memorable catches in SB history put him in..

John Stallworth, who had to wait to get in, was the better WR and played longer..

This is tough..

No, he just benefitted from that era of popularity.

But then again, as they say, "it's the Hall of FAME, not hall of great player, great stats"

and thats the bullshyt because Cliff Branch has 3 rings, was a better post season player and had better stats.

You know Swann only had 2 100 yard games in his post season career?

I know thats crazy..

The Steelers didn't open up they're offense unitl 1978 with the rule changes though. You should factor that in a lil bit.

the steelers opened up their offense and swann still couldnt produce great results. bradshaw throws for 3300 and 3700 and the hall of fame receiver gets 800 each time? :what:

Surprised he's in...but the Super Bowl 'moments' are what got him there.

Wesley Walker had a better career numbers wise.

Before '78 they were just runnin it up the gut with Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier..

They didn't start throwin it until 78 when Bradshaw won the MVP..
