That all changes in Black 2/White 2. Early game you can get Riolu. Evolved it around level 20. Was wrecking the entire elite four with it when I got there.

...is it me, or do all the fire pokemon have the best looking designs hands down?

Picking a fire pokemon gave you a sense of fukk the others, Charizord would one shot even water types
