so why are they canceling this show again?
Why the hell was black Manta considered a boss? Dude got nothing done I didn't even consider him a villain. He's just an innocent bystander.
It's so bad that when him and Kaldur squared off .... you just knew it was a wrap for Manta.... They should just go ahead and reveal Aqualad as the the secret love child of Manta and Aquaman's wife... that would spice things up a bit with the fued between the Manta and Aquaman and explain Kaldur's magical powers....
On the real Kaldur's powerset is under rated.
so why are they canceling this show again?
Before 1982, cartoons only existed to entertain kids. They came and went based on the ratings. When the laws were changed, one of the conditions was that the toys needed to sell well in order to justify the renewal of the show. All subsequent cartoons that had toylines were subject to that. In 1997, when the first season of "Beast Wars" was wrapping up, Hasbro had considered cancelling the show because it cost them $18 million to do 26 episodes, because it was CGI. If not for the strong toy sales during the Christmas of 96 shopping season, the show wouldn't have been brought back.
It has been like that for years. Remember Static Shock was the WB's top rated show and they wanted a 5th season. What killed it? No one wanted to do toys. Same with He-Man cartoon low toy sales got it axed.
The toy sales help fund the cartoons. A lot of cartoon ended due to low toy sales.
Right. It has to be the right combination of good figures and a good show, to have at least three years. Anything beyond that is gravy. When "Batman: The Animated Series" began, there were no toys for it. There was the product from "Batman Returns" that was still being sold in September of 92 and the film did well, at the box office. The first month's ratings were very good. It won it's time slot on Saturday morning, a Sunday night premiere and during the week day afternoon lineup. Plus, it won an Daytime Emmy which is a big deal. In October, there was a month of Sunday night airings which all did well. WB was so hot for the show, that the animated film was bumped from being a direct to video release, to a theatrical one. By the time the toys showed up, the show was going to be renewed for another ten episodes and the toys sold very well.
When Saturday morning cartoons ended on the big three networks, it was due to the networks wanting to find cheaper ways of filling the time slots and pressure from parents groups and political watchdogs, who wanted more news and education, versus "To Sell Toys..." and that played a big part of the decline. The rise of Disney, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon helped give new life to Saturday Mornings and the DVD release of cartoons also play a factor.
Another good example of the importance of these cartoons. In 1985-86, Transformers figures were released in various European markets. But while Italy had a good run, West Germany didn't because the cartoon wasn't on the air there. Several other countries had this problems and so the toys didn't sell. But then when the show finally made it to those markets a few years later, the demand for the toys rose and Hasbro and Takara scrambled to take advantage. They even went so far as to release exclusive toys in the early 90's, both brand new ones to their market and ones that Takara had created for their exclusive cartoon series between 1987 and 1989. Hell, even a batch of toys that were supposed to be released in the US in 1991, but was cancelled due to low sales the last two years, wound up being put out in Europe and Australia instead.
In [Scooby Doo]'s case, the success of the DVD films also help drum up interest. They're not so reliant on toys, but the sales of merchandise that's created independent of the shows and films, is what's keeping him in the public conscious. In the case of "Adventure Time", toys were released the year after the show launched. Between the strong sales of merchandise and the strong ratings, it has lasted five seasons. Toys and other merchandise has been made for "Regular Show".
The cartoons matured not because the audience grew older, but because certain production teams were tired of making crap for kids. When "Batman: The Animated Series" was made, it was the intention of the showrunners to not simply rehash "Super Friends" and "The New Adventures Of Batman And Robin". The goal was to make a cartoon that kids would like, especially after seeing "Batman" in 1989 and have it be taken more seriously. By doing this, it opened the doors for animation to have a certain level of quality about it that would appeal to the kids, while appealing to adults, who had to sit there and watch this with the kids.
But at the end of the, these cartoons are expensive and to offset cost and fees, they need merchandise.
The showrunners of JLU knew that the odds of being renewed was slim, back in 2005. That's why "Epilogue" was written as the finale and the main arc was wrapped. When the show was renewed, they played it by ear. No, not every plot line was resolved such as Hawkgirl and John getting back together to have Warhawk, but they knew going in that this could happen.
The showrunners behind "Thundercats" believed that they would have more, because they were just starting out and that there had been a big enough demand going forward. It's just a big guessing game. "Young Justice" ended with a cliffhanger moment, but the show was already renewed prior to then. They didn't know until after the season started that things were going to go the way they did.
In the case of "Avatar", it had a successful promotional tie-in with Burger King, LEGO play sets, a roller coaster, three video games and an MMO. This made up for the Fisher Price toys. It also won ten awards which factored into it's three year run. But in the end, the show ran only three seasons. The show also doesn't have to deal with DC's licensing fees.
I knew this guy Black Manta wasn't shyt when Sportsmaster and Cheshire came on his sub. He got his ass kicked by sportsmaster then he had to get Tigress to save his ass. Acting like he couldn't fight cause he was worried about his son, the man is just weak. How the fukk you get beat by a man who got his weapons supply from dikk's sporting goods?. Then in today's episode, he has balls to step to black beetle but wtf is he doing pulling out that little weak ass water gun you get from the deli for 99 cents . Black beetle had the fukking super soaker built in his chest, but he knew he didn't need that big shyt for Manta he just smacked him away like he ain't shyt and he isn't. You think Kaldur stopping the fight right when Black Manta was gonna hit Beetle was a coincidence? He knew that weak ass punch wasn't gonna do shyt and just couldn't see his daddy get his ass beat again. You think kaldur was sad that he kicked his daddys ass? Hell no he just knew his father will forever go down as a bytch. Unfortunately the whole thing was recorded thanks to Artemis's charm and you know there gonna be playing that video on the watchtower laughing at Kaldur, the show might be canceled but the ether will burn Kaldur's soul for a while.
