ACTUALLY, THAT ASSASSINATION WAS THE EXCUSE THE GERMANS WERE WAITING FOR, BROTHER! IT LED DIRECTLY TO STARTING THE WAR, DUDE!

War was on the mind of many of the powers. There could have been peace talks and negotiations in the process but many wanted to reclaim and claim themselves as Superpowers. They needed a excuse to go in.
It wasn't just about Germany's excuse who enhanced their Military budget in 1912 but France wanted revenge for Sedan.

:leostare:

All European powers began to suffer a decline due to the consequences of the First World War. Also, the decline was both relative and real. For instance, Europeans were 40% of the World's population prior to the War. Multiple European wars caused by the First World War contributed to this demographic collapse. Your claim is that other states just took up the mantle of imperialism (such as the United States). Sure, I'm not disputing that. I just find it hard to believe that you think that as a result of the First World War, European power on the world-stage has remained just as dominant as it was in 1914.

If they suffered the decline...why can't you name the ones that did?

Tell that to the 150,000 Africans who fought in WWII for the British Empire or the 2.5 million Indians that did the same.

I think a lot of people in this thread do not understand the meaning of nuance. European imperialism did not decline overnight or just as soon as the First World War ended. It was a gradual process which was initiated when Europeans began a series of struggles which decimated their economies and their ability to control territories outside of Europe. It was the African and Asian veterans of European conflicts who contributed to their emancipation after witnessing the barbarism of "civilized" Europe.

I think your assessment of imperialism is flawed/a myth and doesn't account for what happened to European powers after the First World War.

Again why keep talking about "All European Powers" when you can't even name one. WW2 is when many lost the Empire status, not WW1. I gave you examples of who was still there after the war and who emerged after the war and yet none of stuff you spoke about had debunked that.

You might need to explain your point alittle better cause it's not helping your cause here. Name the powers and how they lost their empires?

There's no need for me to name one, when my claim is "all European powers". Additionally, the process for European power declining was initiated in the First World War, which laid the groundwork for the Second World War. Nothing in your post has debunked that.

"What a waste of lives. However, it did cripple European imperialism so..." <- That was my original comment. Within my original comment which you have contested over the past few hours, I never stated that European powers lost their "empire status" as a result of the war. However that war did cripple European imperialism and led the way for gradual decolonization for the rest of the 20th century. I'm not sure what your point is here, or what your main gripe is. I think it's mainly because you lack the ability to perceive nuance. You haven't really made one except contest historical events and their origin point. Everything you have said thus far hasn't really proven a claim or made a significant point regarding decolonization which, again, is a gradual process.
