For yall saying that marines wouldnt get down like that, for the most part I agree. The vast majority of our armed forces are honorable men and women. But I know for a fact that American soldiers have got down in grimey ways in Iraq cuz Ive been told as much by a very close family friend that was there in Fallujah during the height of shyt. Like civilian homes being designated a 'insurgent hideout' and whole families wiped out kinda shyt. Yall think its really insane for a couple snipers to slip up and hit up protestors who may be about to turn a demonstration violent? Every invading army ever has done foul shyt, no matter whether they the good guys in the conflict or not. But Im not putting that on the troops, Im interested in the govt extorting Iraq for 50% of their oil and threatening to murder an interim prime minister. THAT shyt right there is explosive

I assure you not a single world of that thread is based on any evidence. It’s an entirely fictional inversion of the current state of affairs in Iraqi politics for a foreign audience that is not familiar. Iraq has had a domestic protest movement against their current PM and Government since October protesting corruption. Protesters have been killed by Iraqi security forces, primarily those associated with Iran friendly PMU/Hashd militias. Yesterday an embarrassing video went viral of Iraqi Parliament speaker telling his fellow legislators their move to expel US troops wasn’t in Iraqi interest .

This twitter thread has spun the above into a wild movie plot about US assasinations and stolen oil revenue. There is literally not an iota of evidence supporting this theory. Iraqi oil revenue isn’t negotiated on a bilateral basis. If anything, an unstable political environment is bad for business and American oil majors are among the most sensitive to operating in an insecure climate. Exxon evacuated its staff from Iraq last week.
