'Venom' Movie: Peter Parker Will Reportedly Appear, NOT Spider-Man

After yesterday's bombshell that Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man would be appearing in theVenom spinoff movie, we've now gotten some clarifications about the rumor.

Collider's Jon Schnepp spoke on the site's Heroes podcast, shedding some light on the actor's role in the film, stating that he DID NOT film in costume as the Wallcrawler, but as Peter Parkerhimself.

"Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker," Schnepp said. "I'm not saying that Spider-Man is in the film. When I say that 'Tom Holland's Spider-Man is in the film,' I'm saying 'Peter Parker is in the film.' This is a cameo."

Many fans have wondered whether or not the big screen version of Venom would be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially since the movie is coming out through Sony Pictures, or what ties it would have to Marvel Studios in general. After some confusion around the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it seemed Venom would be separate.

But the rumor of an appearance from Tom Holland's Spider-Man only adds more questions to the mix, wondering how closely Sony's "Spider-Verse" will tie into the MCU.

Schnepp himself goes on to call out those who assume Spidey's appearance in an R-rated superhero film doesn't make sense, because no one knows if it is rated R at this point in time. He also points out that not being specifically name dropped in another Marvel Studios movie doesn't work against it, since big crossover movies never explicitly mentioned characters like the Mandarin or the Red Skull.

"I'm not going to say that anyone was lying when they say 'Spider-Man is not in Venom,'" Schnepp said. "Because probably Spider-Man is not in Venom, Peter Parker is in Venom."

Rather than being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Spidey spinoffs could be considered "Marvel adjacent," according to Schnepp's interpretation of producer Amy Pascal's comments.

It remains to be seen how close the Venom solo movie will tie into the Spider-Man mythos and the Marvel Cinematic Universe at large, but we'll find out more as we get closer to the film's release date.

Venom premieres in theaters October 5.

For some reason i aint been excited about this at all. Hardy is so overrated and Its like doing a standalone joker with no ties to Batman but worse as no one is checking for venom like that..

if marfooL announced an unconnected Odin solo flick you'd be bussing a nut like the hoe you are... no one was checking for the first GOTG.. thats why there's something called MARKETING you stupid son of a bytch...

Bad example as i am not really into thor. GOTG was something entirely new as well, having wanted fugitives in an intergalatic setting with it being an action comedy ensemble, on paper what could go wrong?

With this its just venom the end. Who the fukk wants to know about eddy brock before he touches the symbiote and even then what good is it having venom for dolo? What no spidey or better yet carnage. Just venom on his johns as he battles his urge to fully merge with this organism. I sense it will be a little like 'Hulk' and thats not what i want in a comic book movie. What is the end game? Does he eventually become holland's next villian but they lighten him up. Or does holland join this and they darken him cuz who wants a venom trilogy without spidey:why:

Tom Hardy Celebrates 'Venom' Wrapping Filming With New Behind-the-Scenes Photo

Tom Hardy has wrapped on the Venom movie and the star is ready to celebrate.

Hardy shared a photo to Instagram after completing filming on the Spider-Man spinoff movie. His message was pretty simple.

Hardy was announced as the star of Venom in May 2017. He will play Eddie Brock, the original Venom. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer and is the first installment of Sony’s Marvel Universe, a shared cinematic universe that will include Silver and Black, a movie featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, and the Morbius movie.

Filming on Venom began in October in Atlanta and New York City.

During a panel at Comic Con Experience Brazil, Hardy promised to do the character of Venom justice and bring lots of action and dark humor to the role. He also confirmed that the film is inspired by the Venom: Lethal Protector miniseries.

Venom: Lethal Protector was a six-issue miniseries written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley, Ron Lim, and Sam Delarosa. The series was published by Marvel Comics in 1993. The series begins with Venom and Spider-Man agreeing to a truce and Venom moving to San Francisco.

Once in San Francisco, Venom is attacked by the son of one of his past victims and his hunted down by the Life Foundation, who want to study the Venom symbiote and use it for their own purposes. This results in the creation of five new symbiote spawn: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.

Riz Ahmed is rumored to be playing Dr. Carlton Drake, the leader of the Life Foundation, in the film. Michelle Williams is playing Anne Weying, Eddie Brock's wife who later becomes She-Venom. The villain Carnage was also rumored for the film, but no casting has been confirmed. There are also rumors that Tom Holland's Spider-Man may make an appearance in the film.

Venom currently has a 3.71 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating. Let us know how excited you are about Venom by giving the movie your own personal ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating below.

Venom is scheduled for release on October 5, 2018.
