The year 3030
some kinda anti-hero? :unimpressed:
.

I'm less of comic head than you, but I'd say mid 90's based off the cartoon, and video games...cartoon had a redemption arc for venom/brock, especially when carnage appeared

then video games we had Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety where they let you play as venom and spidey teaming up

I'm familiar with those but I don't mean a cartoon, obviously they aren't gonna have Venom wilding out in full villain mode with kids watching.

Or video games. Damn near every game in existence based on an established property (comic character, movie, TV show, etc.) has had to take liberties with characters and/or plot lines for the sake of game play.

I more so meant in the comics, to the point that they'd make a series of movies about it. Granted, Marvel and DC does change things in their movies but very rarely am I sitting there like :dahell: because it's the polar opposite how I remember the character. Which is what I did for this, and the first movie.

I realize they couldn't use Spider-Man when they first started this franchise but they could've went straight horror and still made bank. Which is more how I remember Venom, he was a horrific character.

Now, if there is precedent for this in the comics :manny: I'll take the L because this obviously isn't for me. I'll still peep it because it looks entertaining, at least.

There is precedence :lolbron:Venom hasn't truly been a villain since Carnage was introduced. They don't hate Spider-Man like that anymore either and in fact Venom is currently bonded to Eddies son:lolbron:

I think of Venom and Carnage like Walter White and Todd's uncle. Like - Walt was a god-tier piece of shyt, but when Nazis are in the mix - all of a sudden, Walt doesn't seem so bad.

Also - I just realized that Venom had pronouns way back in the day. :ohhh:

Venom has always teetered on anti-hero territory. The comic relief stuff is new though...although I get it. With something like a symbiote you either lean into the comedy or you go full serious psychopathy multiple personality shyt.
The comedy was all but given since they're leaked with Disney and they veered all the way against horror. I was hoping for that angle too but I mean as we can see audiences responded to the buddy cop feel Eddy and Venom had in the first one:manny:

I'm an old school (late 80's, early 90's) comic head) so forgive my ignorance....
But when the fukk did Venom become comic relief and/or some kinda anti-hero? :unimpressed:

I had the same problems with the first movie so I should've expected more of the same but :yeshrug: this shyt looks super corny to me.

Carnage does look dope though.

Fred.
He's been an anti-hero for almost thirty years.
