Former UNC star Phil Ford has surgery for prostate cancer
Associated Press

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina says former point guard Phil Ford has had surgery for prostate cancer.

Team spokesman Steve Kirschner said Wednesday that Ford underwent the procedure Tuesday after he was diagnosed during his annual physical. Dr. Eric Wallen, the UNC physician who is treating Ford, says the cancer was caught early because Ford "has been proactive regarding his health."

Ford played for Dean Smith in the 1970s and scored 2,290 points, a mark that stood as the school record until Tyler Hansbrough broke it in 2008. Ford also spent 12 seasons as an assistant to Smith after a seven-year NBA career in which he was the rookie of the year in 1979.

walked right by phil this spring at the basketball museum. he was leading a small group around and showing them around which would have been insanely cool to experience. didn't want to bother him but seemed like a really nice dude

Any impression on Duke and UK following their preseason games against Ryerson and the Bahamian national team?

Got two “games” coming up this weekend. Shouldn’t learn a lot from them unless they’re close and that wouldn’t be good.

Same old "roll the ball out and out athlete the other team" narrative from the last few years. Neither team can shoot. I'll reserve totally shytting on Dook because they weren't at full strength, but they're not deep enough. They have one proven 3 point shooter and no low post play. They are ripe for being beaten by teams that have the college ingredients of a decent post presence, deep bench, clogging the paint and make them shoot, and boxing out to prevent that nonsense Zion be on where he just tries to just out jump everyone. I wonder how RJ will be officiated with that off hand/arm push off he got away with on his drives last night. I don't fear this squad at all. Dooks first guard off the bench is Goldwire and their first big off the bench is Bolden. If that's their 6th man moving forward, UNC will have a field day with our 10 man rotation of 7th, Coby, B Rob, Leaky, Kenny, Nas, Luke, Cam, Garrison, and Manley. I didn't even include the mins Platek and Huff gon' steal during the course of the season. We'll have close to 3 players guaranteed to shoot plus 40% from three and a legit post presence with Manley and Garrison. Plus we're a senior laden team thats been there before so I'm sure getting them to give maximum effort on defense won't be hard. I honestly seeing UNC blowing the doors off of Dook in one of their matchup this season.

Anthony won't end up at Duke, by the way. His personal list is actually only two deep: Carolina and Oregon. But he's leaning toward Oregon.

His best friend Armando just committed and he said Cole was priority #1 to recruit. Hopefully it goes a long way.
