The sophomore point guard is averaging 2.4 points and 1.7 assists per game.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina sophomore Seventh Woods's plantar fasciitis is more serious than originally diagnosed, according to head coach Roy Williams.
"We get more information every day... but he is going to be out for a while," Williams said Tuesday of his backup point guard. "We don't know how long. I think they are still checking with another person, too. I would guess... I really don't know. I just know he is going to be out a while."
Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes.
Woods last played in UNC's 86-71 win over Michigan on Nov. 29, with arguably his best showing of the season in posting four points and four assists in eight minutes.
The 6-1 South Carolina native was ruled out against Davidson last Friday and did not play against Tulane the following Sunday.
In seven games this season Woods is averaging 2.4 points, and 1.7 assists in 10.9 minutes. He is shooting 35.0 percent from the field.
Woods's indefinite absence leaves increased playing time for freshman point guard Jalek Felton, who scored nine points and had three assists in 13 minutes against Tulane.
The No. 11 Tar Heels (8-1) take on Western Carolina (3-6) on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen on RSN.
