I thought the trailer was good, not great but pretty good. Look, like "Notorious" I don't know if you can make a Tupac movie without people complainining. He's such a complex figure. I have to see how the performances are. I hope they get the proper distrubution too. I'm going to support the film for sure and I've been watching Benny Boom videos since I was a teen, lol. Look more times than not, they don't give black centric films huge budgets. "Notorious" was shot on a 20 Million budget. Even "Malcolm X" was about 30 Million. "Straight Outta Compton" actually had a 50 Million budget mostly because of Dre and Cube's pull.
Now that I've seen the vision I think it looked better than I thought it would. Wow, I can't believe Jamal really came back and played Big. It's a "Hip Hop Cinematic Universe" for real now, lol. Would it have been great for John to direct this? Absolutely but the question is will films be able to bring Tupac to a whole new generation? Say what you will about "Notorious" but it introduced a lot of young fans to Biggie's music and is still be played on streaming, television and home video. I think this film has the chance to do the same. I'm not seeing "Straight Outta Compton" numbers but it should do good for it's budget.
