Man fukk all those weird sports, they need to make the sprint medley an Olympic event. That was one of my favorites back in high school.

Question for people who follow Track and Field in between the Olympics. What’s up with countries that don’t have anyone representing them in the individual 100 meter finals making it to relay finals like China, Poland, and Belgium?

World Athletics allows a maximum of three athletes per country per individual event, but you need to reach the qualifying time - women qualifying time 11.15.

Many of these countries don't have anyone who reach that qualifying time. The reason though why you see those burka running women and slow dudes from Afghanistan is In order to make the meet globally encompassing, every nation is allowed to submit one athlete to compete, even if they have not achieved the standards. The hosting country for the meet is allowed to enter one athlete per event.

So even a country like china usually has some women running in the 100m prelims who doesn't make it to the heat or final

however for a relay team its easier to make all you have to do is be top 16 in the world and as you have seen today as long as the baton passes are crisp etc. plus with the running start even 4 avg runners can do damage
