Went as a part of a 2 man team for the cycling road race his national teammate is also his work teammate. To become the 2nd ever Ecuadorian to win Olympic gold.

Wasn't expecting the flag carrier and a few other athletes from Japan to be black but maybe I don't know enough about that country.

Japan doesn't have a good history of being welcoming to non-tourist foreigners & immigrants (especially if they are Black/half Black).

However, things are slowly changing in Japan and that's why NBA player Rui Hachimura was chosen to be the flag bearer and tennis player Naomi Osaka was chosen to be the one to light the Olympic Cauldron. Both of them are half Black/half Japanese.
