Was just reading this article/conversation, can't say I don't agree with some of their points. Osaka losing, Biles leaving, and men's basketball team disappointing have definitely had a huge impact on these games and likely will for the remainder of them. Not to mention the major time difference cuz not a lot of y'all are able to stay up late and enjoy some of the events live. Hopefully it's easier next time around in Paris. Let's see what happens the rest of these games and if they continue to build stars and captivate the audience.

2008 had similar problems since it was in Beijing but Twitter was still in its infancy and FB was still fairly new to non-college students so it didn't hurt them as bad. You're right though, Phelps run, the Redeem Team, Bolt, and even Nastia Luikin/Shawn Johnson's run def helped keep people interested enough even if there were spoilers going around.
