I think from a musical stand point I prefer Rayvn Lenae and Kalis Uchi over Summer Walker, Amber Mark and Jorja Smith. I think the latter 3 have more so image propelling them than their actual music.
what? Amber Mark makes dope music, good blend of 90s r&b/house/uptempo. she's also kinda weird looking, so i don't see how she's riding an image at all.

jorja makes hit or miss music, and i agree, she gets a lot more attention than her music warrants due to her looks but that's nothing new for the music business...summer, she's too new to tell, but she resonates with that ratchet crowd, there will always be a place for that type of artist, from MJB (who was more than that, but that's one of her core bases) to keyshia cole to khelani and summer...

but yea, i really cant see how you'd say amber isn't making good music with songs like heatwave, way back, love me right, put you on...

This song is dope! This is what I want to see more of. More uptempo R&B songs.

The first song from Amber I heard was “Conexaõ”, I thought this was a dope avenue from her. This her song with DRAM just aint for me. 3:33 and her last EP deff were good.

From a musical perspective, however, she’s levels above Jorja.

I still gotta give Summer some more spins. CPR, to me, is her best song. I’ll be checking out her new EP over the next few weeks.

what image do you think they'd push? i mean all artists have to have a look, brand, and/or sound (sza has a look and sound, HER has a gimmick and sound, ella mai has an image and sound) so i'm not getting what you mean. Amber only has one body of work, that i'm aware of, and everything else has been singles that all sound different from one another which means she has versatility. She's not cute enough to push on looks alone (unlike jorja) so again, I guess I'm not understanding your critique.

And I agree about Summer, CPR was the only song out of the handful that I heard that really resonates with me. But on the strength of how much I liked it, I'll check out her EP.

@phcitywarrior You are really real for repping Ravyn Lenae. She’s definitely one of the best new artists out there. Crush EP is one of the greatest projects of the year. Glad to see others out there enjoying her too. Rep.

I really do think it’s one of the tighest EPs from start to finish of this year. I listened to it at length in Amsterdam this summer. Was very surprised with the quality. Especially for her being just 19.

I’m a dude but was vibing heavy to “The Night Song”. The instrumentation is phenomenal.

She’s had so much growth since Moon Shoes and Midnight Moonlight. Will be expecting great things from her. She even got the Insecure stimulus package.

With Jorja and to a lesser extent, Amber, I saw the artist before I heard the music. Not the case for Rayvn or Kali. I have to unpack this a bit more.

The Night Song is one of my most played on the EP. It's so good. She reminds me of a young Mya vocally for some reason. I love her vibe.

Steve Lacy really did his thing on the production tip of the album and brought out another side to her artistry. Yes indeed! I was really pleased to hear "Crush" played on this past season of "Insecure".

Her debut album, whenever that drops, will be ridiculous!!
