first, because it's television and they want to be dramatic
second, weren't the first several zombies we see in s01e01 torn apart from the torso
i understand what you're trying to convey but most people were probably only attacked once when the outbreak started, and zombies don't eat other zombies.
in some series other zombies eat other zombies.
in this continuity which is a hodgepodge of romero characterization and 28days later.
put in a comic then taken out of the comic world and on to the tv.
also,..yes you are correct and i agree on you mentioning the first season.
for the naysayers,..this series handled why certain zombies look certain ways and different circumstances of dying.
plus the sociology/psychology involved in the first webisodes.
they have been thorough,..they spent all of last season being thorough to a fault.
creating the tv series's own continuity away from the book.
trying to knock the psychology of this series will not really work.
one becsuse you are a fool to be overly critical of horror as a genre.
two, because horror has only one sound model psychology and story wise which is romero. whereas this series and entire franchise has done an excellent job instilling that romero style psychology. to the point the characters and psychology of slow walkers is all lifted from romero styled zombie content.
even the racist inclusion of t-dogg.
is a step into the psychology of romero and race in the epidemic.
