Sharon Stone prevents Casino from being in Goodfellas ballpark, but it's better than the Irishman. The setting alone is more interesting than anything in the Irishman.

I didn’t say the end of the movie
Then I don't understand what you want to cut? The first part is basically a classic Scorsese mafia flick. It could have ended after they killed hoffa and everybody went to jail (that would've basically been another version of Casino). But he then added another 45 minutes to underline how pointless everything was and that the world these guys lived in and everything that was important to them died with them.

I normally get distracted half an hour into watching a normal 90 min movies. I sat through the whole 3 1/2 hours of the irishman without getting bored once :yeshrug:

They could have trimmed some of the long takes and tracking shots down (those are all classic Scorsese shots however) and that really would have only trimmed down the movie a handful of minutes...not sure if there's a scene that could have been removed. They absolutely should have filmed the De Niro stomping out the grocer in a different way..that looked pretty bad, especially on the first view.

I think the slow pace was also part of the point Scorsese tried to make with that movie. The framework plot is two dudes taking an unnecessary long road trip and the story is told by a dude sitting in a wheelchair all day with nothing to do.

Why do you keep presenting these ridiculous arguments?

The inflation increase from 2013-2019 is just 10%. Meaning his highest grossing movie couldn't even crack $450 mill.

Yet somehow a nearly 4 hour long movie, that he failed to get funding for....that he failed to get distribution for....with no A-list actors....and no, Deniro, Pesci and Pacino aren't A-list in 2019 according to Hollywood, that's straight out of Scorsese's mouth, in that last interview he did....is going to be a hit. Despite the fact that, in his prime, none of his mob movies were hits in real time.

Key words: in real time. Not 24 years after the fact. But this is going to be the one. Ok.

Fred.

Behind You
I didn't have nearly enough capacity for suspension of disbelief to buy DeNiro and Pesci as anything more than two extremely old men with varying degrees of hair dye to try (and fail) to make them look younger.

They should have hired younger actors for the earlier life segments of this movie.

Pacino was really good as Jimmy Hoffa though. One of the better performances that dude has given in recent years. If anyone should get an acting nom from this film it ought to be Pacino.
