don't know why this just hit me:russ:

Not to get too much into a discussion on a movie that's almost 10 years old and we've discussed to death, but the main issues with dark knight rises are all story and Nolan disobeying rules he setup for the first two movies. He takes leaps of logic he didn't take before, he shortcuts story beats for the sake of being epic, he has a third act twists that makes no sense and isn't even needed and also has no impact on anyone in the movie or the audience. And yes, undercuts his big bad villain with said twist that serves no one.
TDKR has its issues. But what movie doesn't? I think the movie largely works and Bane is one of my favorite villains ever. His dialogue and the performance of Tom Hardy still blows my mind, especially considering almost the entirety of his face was covered. He has some of the greatest dialogue of any villain. He did go out like a bytch but for the majority of the film it was good. Also, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman was GREAT. I love the scene where she fights those guys in the bar and the police show up and she just instantly stars screaming/crying like an innocent bystander then just walks away like nothing happened.

Yep. People in this thread act like they haven’t seen worse.

Yeah of course it has it’s good. But overall it doesn’t work for me because of the things I listed. I don’t think it’s the worst movie ever or some abomination. Just for me, most of it doesn’t work and I wish it did

Bruce getting back to Gotham out of wherever the pit is with no means (since he’s broke) and no Alfred (since he left) and then he shows up in Gotham in the middle of the street. Normally Nolan would make sure you know how Bruce got back or at least show a quick scene of him talking to someone who can get him back.

I already knew what you were referring to before writing it because that always stood out. Like how did he make it around the world just in the nick of time when there’s no way In or out of the city allegedly. Plus making the Bat signal through ice. nikka please! I still find it entertaining but those are glaring holes. I believe I read or heard somewhere that Nolan just wanted to be done with Batman.

If there’s one consistent theme to Scorsese’s films it’s Catholic guilt.

but to say that he only makes mob movies or that his mob movies are the only films in his catalog that get critical praise are both blatantly false statements.
The one starring Nicholas Cage as an EMS

My best friend believes that to this day. Anytime we talk about that movie he says “it just felt like homie wanted to wrap it up and didn’t give a fukk”

Bruh. One... we knew where he was going to return to Gotham why we need to waste a scene as to HOW? 2nd, it's been established in Batman Begins his ability to travel around the world broke and without the aid of Alfred, and lastly he is still freakin' BATMAN with or without the suit. He is trained by the League of Shadows to be sneaky and covert and hide in the shadows, so it is not impossible nor necessary to waste a scene of an already nearly 3HR MOVIE to show "how" he snuck into Gotham. Just know that we knew that's where he was heading and that he is Batman which means he has the ability to get in. Why the hell you want to be SPOON FED information knowing that it is not remotely relevant in pushing the story forward.

Also, the ice thing.... as if things in TDKR was call backs to Begins. We forgotten that Bruce was TRAINED on how to not only walk on ice but to even fight on ice and recognize your footing??

People REALLY need to re-watch Batman Begins before asking how Bruce is able to do this and that... forgetting he was trained to be capable of such things.

Because Nolan always did it. That’s my point. When you’re telling a story, you establish rules for your universe. In the first two movies he went through details, even minute ones, to explain everything. Even to show Bruce getting back to Gotham after training with the league. So for a guy who established that universe with those rules for two movies to just toss them out in the third? Nah homie I can’t get with that.

Nolan established the rules in his Batman lore in Begins. Nolan always give people enough, but he never spoon feeds ANYONE because he knows his audience is intelligent enough on things that doesn't really need explaining. Especially you seen that Bruce is capable in walking on ice and knowing his footing for thin ice, train to be covert and able to come in undetected, and leave undetected as we've been multiple times as Batman, and shown in Begins of him traveling with no money around the world. Those things do not need explanation. All we need to know that he was able to escape the pit and you automatically knew he's going to Gotham. There's a reason why there's editing because in all films there be scenes that they have to cut because either it doesn't help push the story or runtime constraints. A movie that's already pushing 3 hrs long doesn't need an explanation of how he got in. We know he's ABLE TO that all that matters.
