I honestly had the same kind of bias, because I tried Billions and didn't care for it, there were so many "boardroom porn" shows around that time, I didn't give Succession a fair chance, but I am kind of glad to enjoy it all now.
The stakes aren't life and death, The Wire was never a satire, The Sopranos veered closer and closer to a satire, but Succession is satire, in it's scathing critique and depiction of so so many elements of modern life.
It's a dark comedy, and very close to The Sopranos, in terms of themes, but The Sopranos has way more heart, and is probably funnier, overall, but Succession did 4 flawless seasons, didn't miss a mark.
