Well, it doesn't seem like it. At least to me.
Regardless, I still like seasons 2-3 better. So far.
This season is so fire. This has always been a good show but this is my favorite season so far. The switch to be more horror instead of science fiction is working.
This is always the go to conflation and kills any real discussion
Acknowledging the flaws of black characterizations written by white people ain't the same as being upset at the mere existence of a black character
Lucas has had moments but as the show progresses he's had more and more instances of being the typical "black guy" character. Luca's only role this season has been as emotional support for Max. And what's one of the most common jobs as black characters? Emotional support for the white characters
So I can understand black viewer's perspective if they say they'd rather have no black characters at all than ones that exist to push white people through the plot and give them epiphanies
We gotta start wanting more than just being happy to see a black face in something

This should be more of an indictment on the show runners/Duffle Brothers
They gave in to the bigoted non black fans that had a problem with Lucas since day one
If you noticed each season he has been given less to do especially after he became Max’s boyfriend
But I digress
It seems all the male characters have become nothing more than emotional support for the female characters
They all have become bumbling inept idiots(a commonly used troupe as popular tv series go on long runs)
The only ones that doesn’t receive huge back lash is Steve/Hopper
So I have to disagree with the magical negro troupe you are mildly alluding to because of my above sentences and for the simple fact
If this was real world application and a girl you truly liked/fukked with
Dumped you out of nowhere, especially young love
You are going to pine/simp to get her back
I think the reason(at least for me) why I go so hard for Caleb is because young money is a good actor (the movie with Idris and The New Edition Story) showed that
It’s also for the lack of a better term
When black people see how white fans ganged up on him just like with John Boyega and little momma now getting shyt in the Obi Wan story
We go hard for our tribe, even Lavar Burton had push back from Star Trek white fans
So even though the characters shouldn’t be above critique
Many black fans withhold critiques because we know what these actors are going through outside the tv screen and we gon ride regardless
I can’t stand the stereotypical precocious, sassy black girl they made Erica
But I want that young girl Priah to win at everything in life
The sad thing about your last statement is black sci-fi still has this air of slavery torture porn to it
Like most of the characters that are written by these weirdo nouveau black writers of Hollywood are atrocious
Outside of Peele, Donald Glover and little momma that is the creator of Abbot Elementary
Black writers are placing all kinds of bullshyt in their shows
I’ll give Issa a little wiggle room but even she has written some bullshyt
We can yell create our own stuff but this new talent aint it
So it’s really a catch 22 to be a black fan of anything
Either keep applying pressure to the old guard of hollyweird
or watch in agony as one of your favorite shows perishes to the abyss aka Black Lightning

What are we really complaining about here? Lucas is the real winner on the show. nikkas is basically mad he isnt a weird lame. He's tall, charismatic, very intelligent, and comes from a well off family. He's able to move between different social groups. Yeah he was riding the bench-- as a FRESHMAN on Varsity. So buddy can hoop. And he's the only main Male character who pulled a real girl that didn't grow up in a basement. Isnt a mormon thousands of miles away, or their male best friend (looking at you Will).

I've caught up with the 7 episodes they've released so far. I like the season so far, I'll give it a 7.5/10. But season 2 & 3 are still the best seasons by far, IMO.
I don't like the fact that they have over relied on the CGI this season and made the show more horror and less sci-fi. The horror aspect has always been there but they've turned it up by a thousand.
Also, the white boy that's captain of the basketball team is nothing but an annoying evangelical country club Republicac. Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties b!tch ass
season 3 was horrible, almost ruined the show for me. season 1 is still the best. season 2 was my favorite. this season is good so far, but I don't know if a 5th season is needed honestly

I really enjoyed his arch in the 1st half of the season.I’m not seeing these complaints about Lucas at all.
I honestly thought the episodes were a little long in the tooth, and the season was a bit uneven compared to season 3. Like Dear Billy is clearly the peak of the season thematically. So why the hell am i watching these awkward ass Russians right after? But it is what it is. Glad this is the beginning of the end. Wouldn't mind a time jump for the last season but I'm sure they'll end it correctly.
