Hopefully they bounce back. Get back to the roots. They have excellent material to work with in the upside down world. They should've had something like they find a human that's from and lives in the upside down or some shyt like that. They're too focused on product placement and Scooby Doo type hijinks with the kids
That has nothing to do with it. Whether you watched Neverending Story or not that scene didn't fit into the story period.

Season 3 was wack. They better have a story worth telling this time.
I didn't like season 3 very much at all but I thought that "Never Ending Story" part was great. 
But yeah, they do need to do something new for season 4. They keep teasing the Mind Flayer as some kinda world ending threat but he keeps getting washed by middle schoolers.

What about the people who never tried 'New Coke" or got a drink at Orange Julius way back in the 80's? What if they didn't get those reference? I never played D&D either but I'm familiar with it and it fits into the story. I know product placement has literally moved from the background and taken over the show but I'm just going on story.
