I guess next season needs some Bobby Brown references then :heh:
:manny:
Radio was king back in those days and the songs they played were based off of the Billboard Charts
and there were NO Hip Hop stations outside of NY and LA especially in rural areas
The "Beverly Hills Cop" soundtrack with that Pointer Sisters "Neutron Dance" song leading the way was #4 album on the charts on July 4th 1995
"Sussudio" by Phil Collins was #1 song in the country and was #8 on the R&B chart
"Raspberry Beret" was #4 on the Hot 100
"You Give Good Love" by Whitney was #7
The next black artist on the singles charts was Aretha at #37
No Hip-Hop at all on the singles charts
"King of Rock" was #57 on the Albums Chart
"You Talk To Much was #37 on the R&B Chart
This is what people outside of the big cities were exposed to:francis:

Hip-hop won't be as huge in the timeline of the show for like another 3 years ('88). Until then its Pop, R&B and remnants of disco.

In episode six and thoroughly enjoying the ride but I hate, hate, hate how black women & girls have to be stereotypes in these Netflix shows. They couldn't have made Erica more of a cliche if they tried. Down to the neck rolling & finger wagging. :snoop: She had to be confrontational, sassy, and seeking something free. I mean, word? Really? :what:We really need more black men & women writing black characters.

Ummm black writers write them the same way, and Erica is more of 80's annoying sassy little sister.

I finally finished this tonight. I enjoyed this way more than Season 2. It flowed incredibly well, wasted no time, and kept me hooked throughout. The individual storylines branching out until they came together was great, particularly the Scoop Troop team. Only real knock I had was that Nancy & Johnathon’s storyline was really dull and boring, easily the weakest part of the season.
Wasn’t really crazy about Robin being a lesbian either, her and Steve had such a good chemistry together that when it was retconned almost immediately I was nearly as disappointed as Steve was. They might be friends going forward but Steve’s got Dustin for that, Robin and him would’ve been about the only like able couple on the show.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. This ain't a series about them....it's about the 80's. They've nailed every other aspect of that era down to the smallest detail. For them to randomly decide not to include the genesis of one of the most popular genres in history is :patrice:
Cats can't make a period piece and just be like :manny: "I'm not fukking with that specific aspect of that era, let's leave it out".

Fred.
:russ: this show is about the supernatural, throw back creature features in the 80s. How many monster movies from the 80s can you name that have a hip hop soundtrack? 2 black characters who's parents I never see and all of a sudden we need hip hop and break dancing?
