NAH, unless he got a cousin in a major city sending him mixtapes, his ass aint hearing no damn hip hop. it wasnt until the mid 90's some cities let that shyt rock foreal. some places only played hip hop after 9pm on friday and saturday night in the early 90's.

Nah, @DoubleClutch is right man.

If this season takes place in 1985 then RUN DMC's "Rock Box" would've been getting play on MTV for a solid year. Not to mention "King Of Rock" came out early 1985 and went platinum. That video would've been all over MTV too.

It's not a deal breaker this season but if next season takes place in '86 or later and has no hip-hop I'm gonna be side-eyeing the show.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. This ain't a series about them....it's about the 80's. They've nailed every other aspect of that era down to the smallest detail. For them to randomly decide not to include the genesis of one of the most popular genres in history is :patrice:
Cats can't make a period piece and just be like :manny: "I'm not fukking with that specific aspect of that era, let's leave it out".

I’m pretty sure they focus on what they know/knew which was my point. I’d love for them to include more black culture, but I would assume they would probably need to consult somebody to not end up looking stupid. I expect we’ll just see mostly white/general pop culture. Especially if next szn is the finale

I get your point but fam....I'm white. White people knew RUN DMC in the 80's. It was a part of pop culture.

Granted I was living in a predominantly black area in the 80's and 90's, so it's not the same as the small town in "Stranger Things"....but MTV was playing the fukk out of RUN DMC in the time frame of this current season.

I'm not trying to derail the thread or anything....not even really criticizing the show. Just saying, for them to include everything else from the 80's....and I'm old enough to remember that decade....it's kinda odd, is all. And it'll be even more odd next season, as the 80's go on.

Na jp I do know RUN DMC was poppin nationally at that point, but idk how prevalent it would be in suburban white Hawkins, Indiana yet. If they do incorporate it well I would be pleasantly surprised, or if they just mention it in passing. I could see them do some shyt like having Dustin get into it and having Lucas on some :mjpls: to flip the script :francis:

Not many people had cable in early-mid 80's to be watching no MTV.
