64gb for AAA games does seem like a buzzkill:patrice:

just going based on the games they showed in the video, Jedi fallen order is 55gb on steam and control is 44gb. Unless there’s some good methods for compression
it takes SD cards plus it has other models with more storage.

Sweet this is basically a handheld PC
After seeing more I def am going to pre order

Curious how save files are going to work.

In theory if this has browsers or Xbox app I can run gamepass or xclould from it.

If steam can team up with Microsoft and get cloud saves going we in business.

it wont outsell the switch but it will have a niche market. Not like steam games dont get release every single day lol

imagine if this launched with a new team fortress, or portal? I guess it wouldn’t be exclusive either way but more accessible with this versus a new pc

Power play is to support the Xbox app and Microsoft to support cloud saves for steam librarys for live accounts.

This is pretty beefy. I bet you could install a Switch emulator on this and out Switch the Switch :skip:
I guess it will do video out via USB-c

edit: it has a dock (sold separately)

I feel like this is just a couple steps away from perfection. Like , it’s right there on the cusp of greatness. I want to support just to light a fire under Nintendo’s ass

they have the handheld market entirely to themselves right now outside of phones and tablets and it’s starting to show

Switch OLED sales are def gonna take a hit. It’s not like the casual audience playing animal crossing is dying for a switch pro or a bigger Oled screen for another 50 dollars.

the people they were targeting can spend 50 more dollars and get a vastly superior handheld right now. This could honestly be great for all those indies coming out on Xbox and steam for me. I might have to cop…I just don’t want a switch and this thing so I wanna see what the emulation is like

I’ve spent way too much money on my Nintendo library to lose it

No, this will crash and burn like their console.

Best case scenario is that this ends up a niche product. Realistic case is that it is super-niche. Either way, i say a maximum 2 iterations from Valve/partners before it fades away.

When looking at it as an entire package(including price) there is nothing appealing about this device at all. In theory, sure, its great to have a PC like device thats more portable. But this device is not bringing anything new to the table. No new user experience features, no exclusive games, no unique selling point. On top of that, it is entering a highly competitive market on the gaming side (Switch) and the portable computing side (laptops, iPads + mobile phones).

Its expensive considering its just going next to devices that you already own that do the same things.

I know the knee jerk reaction is to compare its specs to the Switch OLED specs and say how much more value but thats not how it works.
Nintendo prices their product on the value that they as a company bring to the market.

Valve is great at a lot of things but hardware isn't one of them. This is a device designed by PC building nerds with too much time/money without consideration of real market factors. Its not particularly portable and has bad battery life.

Also, imagine launching a handheld device after Nintendo and having an inferior screen.
