I used to have racist bullies as a kid(went to a pretty much all white school) whose asses I could whoop but the whole name calling, isolation and feeling different got under my skin. Violence is not always required for it to be bullying.

And that's what works with Peter and flash. It's creating that dichotomy where this kid can beat up anyone he wants at anytime and can handle super villains before dinner but he can't handle this kid in his school making fun of him

So producers now don't use fake character names to hide true identities of certain characters?

Zendaya is the most notable of the young cast members, she was never going to just play some obscure character called "Michelle" come on


Then factor in what I previously mentioned about her complexion, I don't know how anyone can be shocked or surprised that she's been cast as the character

Nah they said she was Michelle not Michelle Gonzales. Writers theorized she was that character because she's the only Michele in continuity. But I think he's saying it was obvious it was a smoke screen because that character was like a blip on the radar so it wouldn't have made sense for the theories to be true and also if you've got a movie with Liz, flash, and Ned Leeds, why would you make a character up?

Big difference in changing the face of a character vs using a character no one outside of a handful of people even know and the writer probably doesn't even remember.

No I wasn't bothered at all because Lex Luthor has had multiple incarnations from a weasely dude in a janitor's outfit to a fat old businessman to a guy with long red hair and an Abe Lincoln beard to a bald bodybuilder.
So there is no one Lex Luthor while Flash Thompson has always been the jock who bullies Peter Parker.

USA today ran a piece today or yesterday about this as did the daily beast and they both took heart in that more people are for this than against this which is always cool. But there was one sarcastic tweet about how a white Mary Jane makes this whole tale about a kid getting bit by a radioactive spider who saves crime in a unitard fall to pieces.

Also an ignorant tweet of someone saying what's next, a white MLK? Comparing made up characters to real people lol

Well it's like I explained earlier, flash's bullying was never really physical. He was just the cool kid who verbally abused the dork at every turn. I hope they copy G Weisman and make it so that they were best friends when they were younger but shyt changed once they got to middle school and high school

The white guys who are bothered by this always go for the "well let's cast a white guy ass INSERT BLACK CHARACTER" like they are making a point.
The thing they ignore is that the majority of black comic book character's count their being black as an integral part of who they are. Being black is essential to a Luke Cage, Black Panther, Vixen and Black Lightning so making them white would mean the core of the character would have to change too.
Most white characters are only white because they were created at a time that institutional racism was perfectly fine and all of the people working in comics were white men.
