Cheap ending to one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

You don’t go from cunning and cerebral as Franklin was to a dysfunctional person suffering from substance abuse. Dude did not drink, smoke, do drugs, or even cheat on his woman. That shyt was rushed and contrived.

As another poster said, better writing would have been to give a prelude to his alcoholism in prior seasons.

I wasn’t expecting him to ride off into sunset, because that typically isn’t the ending to those type of characters but it’s kind of an anticlimactic wrap up to his storyline.

Also Veronique would have never been able to get away with all that money on a business account without Franklin coming in in person and both parties signing off on it and then it would have had to been cleared by the bank which takes days sometimes weeks.

Bank ain’t just cutting you a check for 800K they putting all kinds holds on that money and you got to get signatures and copies of people’s IDs and everything. Again that’s rushed cheap writing.

Cissy’s character and how she started moving made no sense either. I understand why she killed Teddy, but it was the antithesis of what her character claimed to be about. A more fitting ending for her would have been her turning Fed witness if she felt so guilty about her son and Teddy poisoning the community.

Great show but they rushed that ending and those characters could have been fleshed out much more. Kinda amateur hour with that shyt to an otherwise phenomenally written show.
You are seriously underestimating how bad that life fukks you up. The shyt that happened to him would have broke a lot of people.

As far as th bank goes. Things weren’t like they are now in the 80’s. She may have had her name on the account and had the authority to make withdrawals and so deals. That’s not hard to believe

Cissy was never a team player. She only helped him when it benefited her, she never agreed with what he did and who he was becoming.

Also this notion the Franklin poisoned the community.

My take is these people are making their own decisions to buy and use drugs. I blame Teddy more than frank because Teddy was allowing the drug to come into the country for his personal gain. Frank wasn’t forcing people to use the drugs. I know this is a hot take but I blame the drug dealers for the wars and violence that comes with more than from poisoning the community.

The ending was not rushed and they even told you it took 3-4 years for frank to get to bum status. It took a series of fukked up events that started in season 5 for him to become dusty. This whole season was the finale not just the final episode
If thi was Power, Cissy would've killed Teddy...her and franklin would've make a clean escape she would just so happen to have some money stashed away. Franklin would've been pissed and then killed her because why would a mom ever lie.
If it was power they would have made Franklin a villain in two episodes and his girl would have killed him. They would have never really showed him become the heel, they wouldn’t have tied up anything

Can anyone clarify why Louie was back at the horse stable. Were those two covering for her? I get how therapeutic it's to ride them things, but you had enough to buy all kind of horses. Them bytches cost like one rack a piece smh.

Didn't even have to get kidnapped at a spot you could've built up yourself. Why you going back to the spot they caught you slippin at in the first place? Just turn yoself in, out there cruising for a bruising on a gotdam horse. You know I sort of get it, 10 episodes vs 25 episodes in my day. Better writers and more source material to work with.
It was a different stable and from the fear on her face they didn’t know who she was, they were just covering for her imo. It’s probably a situation where they’ll probably ask her to leave after the cops leave.

A LOT of nikkas got real money in the 80s and a lot of them crashed out just like franklin did.....wasn't really cheap and easy, it made sense especially with his father already being a alcoholic at one point.

Dont see an ending that could've been much worse. nikka is basically homeless now. Death or jail would've been easy and cheap.

That's funny cause people are saying this current ending was easy and cheap.

I know dudes that were the man back then.. Get swept up in the RICO in the early 90s as teens
FED garnish everything they bought with the drug money, freeze their accounts and make them pay crazy restitution.

They getting released this decade into the streets with nothing and youngbuls who never knew them running they old blocks now

Them nikkas are cooks and working in construction now..

And they're the lucky ones cause them other nikkas got killed or never getting out of jail

The ending was only going one of those three ways.

*edit*

I do realize that a high level plug like Franklin that survives,

doesn't snitch.. and is not in jail .. Most likely will always be good
in the hood ...
but they really don't want to give that character any happy ending

And most nikkas ain't that lucky in real life

This ending really doesn't make sense. They are throwing away all of Franklins character development. We know he wanted his money back but he was also smart and everything else. This shyt is dumb smh.
You think nobody smart ever got addicted to drugs? They are trying to portray him as an addict to money as a parallel to the drug addicts. Even smart people can be ruined by addiction brother.
hey let’s just fukking bring peaches back bcuz why the fukk not? :heh:
If they didn't, everyone would constantly be talking about Peaches and that damn 5 million dollars. They needed to show that Franklin exhausted every option to get his money before he completely lost his mind.

A lot of people are not taking into account what making and losing $73m can do to a person. Never mind what $73m today means, $73m in 1986 is worth about $200m today. He lost generational wealth, he lost power and control. He had been manic and spiraling all season.

Even Leon’s $3m is worth about $8m today.
Yes, people are taking that into account. We’re also taking into account he has multiple rental properties in south central giving him monthly income and selling his stake in the building would’ve put $5-10M back in his pocket which would’ve been more than enough to live on and keep investing had he not been laser focused on what he lost and keeping that building for pride/legacy reasons

Has anyone seen Nightmare Alley before? That movie basically had the same ending.

As soon as I saw the shot of liquor in front of Franklin...I already knew where this was going so I skipped through ngl. Harsh ending but that's the reality of it...I suppose.

Nah, the fear was that the DEA was still on her and chased her to whatever state she was in. The couple likely knew she was a fugitive, the way they talked about those types coming thru, but it’s like the Underground Railroad, they ain’t giving up no runaways, it especially helped that one was a white woman - if you rewatch, they ignore that she said her and the black guy owned the spot. Best way to sell a story to the authorities - white women
