Workrate in the rumble is not a thing, but layout and memorable character/storyline/spots/elimination moments are, and this year's rumble entirely lacked that. No storylines were set up for WM season, no eliminations were memorable except Brock catching Riddle in the air and throwing him out in the same motion. The only thing you got out of the Rumbles was Ronda's back and the Brock/Roman storyline is reset to where it was in December and nothing else in the company matters at all.
Pretty much. I’m past the point of caring about booking or anything else really, I’m detached from any of that stuff. I just wanted to see some fun interesting shyt for a couple hours and both Rumbles were pretty void of that.Workrate in the rumble is not a thing, but layout and memorable character/storyline/spots/elimination moments are, and this year's rumble entirely lacked that. According to PWInsider, HHH not being involved and Tyson Kidd not being around resulted in the trash Royal Rumble matches we got this year:
Several pointed to the fact that Paul Levesque, for the first time in many years, was not involved and not present as he's dealing with his health issues. In the past, Levesque would be involved with in an advisory role of sorts, often making Rumble changes to accentuate certain talents and make sure there were little "moments" or highlights after the grand scheme for the Rumble had been locked in. His absence was absolutely felt this past Saturday.
The other major absence this year was WWE Producer TJ Wilson aka Tyson Kidd who usually takes a massive leading role in producing the women's division in general and would have been a general in putting together the Rumble match. Wilson was not at the Rumble and was not involved in putting the bout together. We are told Wilson, who has not been around in recent weeks, is still officially with the company. With Wilson not there, Dave Finlay was brought up from NXT to help produce the Rumble, in part because he had worked with so many of the returning women who were coming back for Rumble appearances.
And according to WON, the producers of the men's Rumble were: Jamie Noble (lead producer), Chris Park, Adam Pearce and Shawn Daivari.
