So if the Mithraics invented the necromancers, the Atheists probably responded with nuclear weapons.
In other words, the arms race itself destroyed the world.

The necromancers appear after the nukes in the intro. Figure its worth something if its a catalogue of events as they played out

I'm sure there's a lot more to it than what he have seen. The original Campion sent him for a reason, and whatever it was it wasn't to tell jokes. He'll definitely get some kind of flashback one of these days.

I see what you're getting at but it's a good back and forth between him and her, and the kids. Relevant too. The kids don't fear him, and so far he's way more of a nurturing figure than she is. He's not perfect though, but neither is the necromancer. The both of them fukk up too..which makes them exactly like parents or parent stand ins.

My guess is that some of the "dead" kids either transformed bodily into creatures, or their memories were absorbed into some kind of alien "Matrix" that exists on the planet.

but father is beta that actually part of his character arc him feeling weak and inadequate compare to mother who a Necromancer I mean father himself outright tell mother to her face how he feel like dead weight compare to her. that is one of the main reasons why he start to teach the kids how to hunt and kill so he can feel more useful.
