i just want great vocals and a fresh perspective in songwriting/content.. enough of the low-fi cursive singing/whispering these artists are doing.. this whole alt-rnb/atmosphric wave is soo stale now. I need more balance w/the subgnres.. not one particular rnb ‘sound’ oversaturating the market
Chrisette Michelle ain't walking through that door :mjcry:

Yeah these Brent Faiyaz, Bryson Tiller and 6lack types gotta go. PND and The Weeknd were two of my favorite artists but in retrospect they completely b*stardized the genre.

I thought I was the only who hated Faiyaz and 6lack.

Faiyaz is just boring to me, and 6lack might be the biggest cornball in r&b.

I won’t hate on Bryson since he seems like a pioneer to the sound, but he def has fallen off.

Yeah I don’t mind Bryson as much. 6lack is a ‘rapper’ masquerading as an r&b singer. Dude has the same tone in every song, never seen him try to hit a note or anything. Brent is a better singer but yeah he’s just boring.

I hate the the key or tone that Brent sings in but he’s a talented writer. I wish he would give his songs to someone else

I think we’re moving away from this type of sound in 2020

I’ve gotten pretty into the R&B scene. They are killing it. People that say R&B ain’t good anymore just ain’t listening to the right music.

I would probably say Snoh Aalegra is killin the female R&B lane. She makes great music. Summer Walker had a nice album, she got potential to build. H.ER. was dope to me but she’s gone too mainstream. I hope she goes back to her old ways, but money and fame look like they are gonna dilute her music. I really liked Ari Lennox’s album, she’s super dope to me. Sabrina Claudio is dope to me, I enjoy all her albums.

As for male R&B I’m liking the smooth funk of Lucky Daye and JMSN. Lucky’s last album was one of the best of 2019. He looks like he’d be great in concert. If y’all ain’t heard of JMSN, check him out. DVSN been killing it, they got three really good albums. Their debut is a classic to me. SIR also killing it, his album was one of the best of last year.

I just got into Brent Faiyaz and I like him but understand why some don’t. I just like him for his originality and he seems like he keeps true himself.

@Kixx

what do you mean H.E.R. has gone too mainstream

I actually think she’s gotten pretty stale

Slide was the bop she needed and then she followed it up with slow boring stuff

I’m biased toward people who get swept up in the mainstream. She’s definitely made it, she’s on all the shows and commercials. She doesn’t have the same sound as her Vol 1 and 2. Can’t hate on her, she’s probably getting paid nice.
