Seriously, what's the difference between Dead Island 2 and Dying Light 2 games? Cause they are so similar

Never got to play Dead Island 2.
My son copped it, but from what I seen is that Dead Island is a bit lighter than Dying Light.
I prefer the gritty world of DL.
Especially the day and night cycles that change the game.
