Patina Miller returns for the explosive third season of “
Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” which debuts on STARZ on Dec. 1.
This season “continues to tell the origin story of fan-favorite character Kanan Stark (
MeKai Curtis), originally played by
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in the flagship series, delving further into his evolution from the devoted son of Raquel “Raq” Thomas (
Miller) into the eventual ferocious, amoral and pragmatic personality fans know from “Power,” per the series synopsis.
“Season three picks up where we left off, in Southside Jamaica Queens with the Thomas family in turmoil and reeling from the Mob’s coordinated attack on Raquel, Marvin and Lou-Lou. After her close call, Raquel is looking to make a fresh start, but Kanan doesn’t trust her or believe it when she says she’s done,” the series description continues. “Can she really be out of the game? Returning this season is Italian mob boss Stefano (
Tony Danza)
, while new adversaries are introduced such as “Snaps” and “Pop” (
Wendell Pierce and
Erika Woods).”
Miller told EUR exclusively that loyal “Power” franchise fans can “expect the unexpected” this season.
“There’s a lot of things happening this season that are out of her control,” Miller said of her character. “Her son is doing his own thing. She has to deal with her son and her baby daddy in alignment and what that means. Howard is not going away. They’re in this thing together where they have to keep their secret under wraps because Howard’s job is affected. It’s dangerous for everyone. If anything happens, they’re all less safe,” she explained.
“So, you’re trying to deal with the different emotions of every character, Raq being on an island on her own, she’s by herself. She doesn’t have Lou. Jukebox is out doing her own thing. Marvin is trying to refocus and redefine himself,” Miller added.
“Raq is also doing the same while trying to keep some sort of a relationship with her son. It’s a very epic season. We’re going to see if she does actually stay out of the business. I think she’s a very savvy businesswoman, and I’m excited to see what happens and for the audience to be taken on a journey to see what happens.”
Miller also shared the aspects of Raq’s storyline that resonate most with her. Watch our entire conversation via the clip below.
