Aight, couple things i can hear that could set this muther off... around 1:00, wherever that bass comes back in... needs something to give indication it's about to go down again. you could use a long reversed cymbal... or even take that fading sound that was just playing and reverse that. i bet that'd be dope... then bring in some got damn cymbals bro. your hat game is cool but it needs a OH (open hat) or a crash in there (on second listen i hear there is some variation) on the down beats or something to let 'em know you mean business.
beat has good sound qualities to it, but it's very vanilla. I think that's because the melody isn't strong enoguh on it's own for me to hum it later on... it's kind of forgetable. this isn't really 1 thing, but more of a combination of things... for example the 808 sub is "trap" sounding, but not really blowing me away. needs a little more mids presence/saturation. I'd take notes from something like this, more popular, of course you're not aiming for this, but i'll point out some stuff i'd think you could take notes from.
That last part where you've got the distorted pitched snare is my shyt tho
so... i know this track is much different. BUT, that hi hat is panned and yours didnt sound panned( on second listen i hear that it is panned). it has multiple different samples used as the percussion, it's got a SNARE, a CLAP, a RIMSHOT, all used so subtley that you can't really recognize unless you're really listening. Also, these elements all have a lot of hall reverb to open up the whole spacial arrangment. then there are pieces with very little reverb so it's snapping and almost "jumping right out of this sound ocean"
you asked for it
