In the wake of an intense bidding war, Netflix has closed a deal to acquire U.S. rights to the female-driven action feature “Gunpowder Milkshake” from STXFilms. Plans are to release it on the service this summer.
STX retains Canada, Latin America, and Chinese distribution rights while Studiocanal, who fully financed the film and produced with The Picture Company, will hold the rest of the international rights and are planning a global theatrical rollout.
Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Angela Bassett, Paul Giamatti, Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh and Chloe Coleman star in the film which is set over one night and follows three generations of female assassins who fight to stop a vicious cycle of violence that has haunted their lives.
Navot Papushado (“Big Bad Wolves”) directs from a script he co-wrote with Ehud Lavski and a sequel is already in early development.
