Anyone else struggle to get to loose balls? My teammates' reaction time is too slow. Is there a setting to change that?

I just got this yesterday and I'm playing for the first time.
the in game subs are really weird. and it is NOT intuitive.

Theres a big learning curve and I still dont know how to use the in game sub...its the complete opposite of intuitive
Once I got use to it I was fine. I only do it during breaks in action or bringing the ball up court on offense.

also, I dont like how there are now 3 passing buttons. a lot of times, when I'm grabbing a rebound, I'll throw a shytty pass cuz triangle now does alley oops. I don't know why they changed it. and throwing bounce passes with L2 and X worked fine before as well.
I do like using the L2 to enter and exit the post. that seems to work well.
CPU not as cheesy as last year, but they are still pulling that 4th quarter bullshyt from last year. not gonna play with the default sliders.

I figured out how to do the in game subs, but I have no idea how to sub my center, cuz it says R3 and down. but pressing down subs another player as well, so I don't get it.
subbing with the d-pad is much easier. I don't understand why they are constantly making changes to the gameplay every year. I don't wanna have to re-learn trivial things. for instance, I was trying to call timeout, but now it's the touch pad. whereas last year it was L1 & R1. I had to go into the tutorial just to find out how to do a time out.
I only use the circle button (bounce pass) now when passing and triangle for alley oops...I cant even use the x button when passing because it gets intercepted every time...I have no idea why there are 3 buttons for passing either

If ya'll have trouble playing on ball D online turn the defensive assist up to 100.
Seriously, I've been playing with it on 0 the last few years but putting it on 100 gives you more of those bumping animations you get when you're being guarded by the CPU. I've been locking dudes up online ever since I did that.

you do that offline first or can you do it in the settings while playing online?

It doesn't really matter because the game always resets your controller settings when you play online.

three passing buttons is absurd. however, EVERY time I get this game in the fall, first thing I do after playing on the default sliders is go in and adjust the CPU sliders for playing the passing lanes and steals. however, it still doesn't seem as cheesy this year.
I played 2 games and got beat by double figures each time by the CPU. usually takes me a few days to get the hang of the game.

I don't really play online, but when I do, I ONLY play cats I know in real life or someone like the coli folks, cuz most of the dudes on here are pretty cool.

one thing I"m glad about, is that they put greg anthony in the game. not cuz he's better than kerr. but the game commentary has been the same for like 3 years. good to see them have to go in the studio and record all new lines.
