Been away from the Coli for a while now. I got some questions for yall.

What was the last unreleased Nas song to leak, snippet or otherwise?

Anyone recall what Nas was working on before he hooked up with Hit Boy?

Wasn’t there supposed to be a Nas Track over Gangstarr’s Mass Appeal beat?

The last song I remember leaking was the one he had with Big Sean.

Nas album done with Khaled?
I've asked this repeatedly and have never really gotten a suitable answer. Nas ame out with Nas Album Done and he came out with the Season but then there seemed to be a pivot. I think he came out with the Kanye album after that. What I'd like to know is details or everything we know about that album including what might have leaked since that was supposed to be on that album.

Between 2013-2017 he was just tinkering around with different ideas and called up different producers. The closest we got to an actual album dropping was 2016 when Nas Album Done was recorded (he was also doing a few festival dates that year and 2017 so he was definetly planning an album cycle) From what was later revealed, he recorded a whole album with Swizz Beatz. I dont think Swizz produced the whole album but he was sort of exec producing.
Echo which was dropped 2 years later I believe was from those sessions (Produced by Scratch). There was also No Bad Energy and Adult Film from LT 2 which was probably from that period. I also remember a Rap Radar podcast from about the fall of 2016 when Joshua Hip Hop Kymambo who used to mix/engineer a lot of Roc a Fella and Def Jam albums said he was waiting on Nas to complete some tracks to finalize mixing an album. Not sure if it was the same or just another album he worked on.

Earlier than that in 2013 (When he announced on twitter he was gonna drop an album and then later a year or so later when the season dropped and he said he finished an album on the Schoolboy Q/BJ Chicago Kid remix of Studio)
I think he was recording or nearing a complete album then too. That was when he went to see Timbaland about Sinatra in the Sands (the Timerlake/Hov/Nas record still not released and I think BBC form Jays album was recorded then). Timbaland also shared a clip on is IG of a Nas song he recorded which had the same vocals later found on Echo. Beat was fire too. In theory its possible those were two attempts at an album. He also was supposed to drop a compilation for Mass Appeal in 2013-2014 where a Boldy James/Mac Miller/Nas record was done but still not released.
I also believe during this time he reached out with Pete Rock again and thats how QB politics came (I know Art of It sounds like 2010 from the subject, maybe its a unmixed Pete Rock remix he later did who knows)

All in all I think Nas was recording a lot but probably chose not to release anything while trying to figure out the best exit from his Def Jam deal with soem promotion by them....in the meantime he focused on his venture captial/investor thing which was at its peak in 2013 till about 2018, maybe 2021.

Of all that material done, it was claimed a few years the Swizz album was the closest to a fully formed proect

Nas reddit posted this a couple days ago...I either heard this back in the day and forgot about it or never heard it. His catalogue goes so deep, always crazy when you stumble upon something you don't remember

Nas absolutely murdered this. I remember it dropped on Apple radio. Nas floats on modern production.

We don’t really have details. Only theories and conjectures.

The album was originally executively produced by Hip Hop Since 1978, who was apparently being very frugal with who could submit beats for the project (only top tier producers)

Then a few years later after Magna Carta Holy Grail dropped Timbaland did an interview saying that he was super proud of the work he and Jay did but that the next artist he worked with was going to get his absolute BEST production, and that artist was Nas

In-between that time Nas was rumored to be in the studio with damn near every producer of note in the game. Of course nothing came of that.

Nas announced in May of 2014 that he would be starting Mass Appeal as a label and that he would be joining the label full time once his Def Jam contract was completed.

Timbaland leaked a snippet of the work he and Nas had done at some expo. The song has never been heard in full.

Timbaland confirmed he produced a song with Nas, Jay-Z, and Justin Timberlake called “Sinatra in the Sands”. A snippet leaked but the song has never been heard in full.

Kanye announced in 2018 he’s be doing his infamous 7 song projects with Pusha T, Kid Cudi, himself and oh yea… Nas on June 15.

Nas puts out a press release saying that Nasir would be released via joint venture with Mass Appeal and Def Jam and that afterwards he would release music exclusively through Mass Appeal.

We all know the story after that. Lost Tapes 2 drops the next year with all songs from the Def Jam era. KD1 drops in 2020 marking his first full release on Mass Appeal and so on and so forth.

Nas has never talked about the album that never was. Only Anthony Saleh has ever talked about it in depth and that was during an interview with Elliot Wilson some years ago.

So all we can do is theorize. My theory has always been that Nas didn’t necessarily want to give Def Jam the album that THEY wanted which probably would have leaned into the more commercial aspects of Life Is Good. So he scrapped the Timbaland project and whatever Hip Hop was giving him and just was waiting until he found whatever opportunity could satisfy both himself and Def Jam. Enter Kanye, who could, in theory, give Nas production that could be both commercially viable and artistically pleasing. Nas signs up for it, not knowing that Kanye was about to go off the deep end. We end up getting Nasir, which Def Jam hastily puts out to satisfy Nas contract. Nas moves on, Def Jam moves on.
