I remember Clark Kent saying Nas and Big weren't on speaking terms at points in 1996 and 1997. Walked past each other in a hotel hallway without saying a word to each other. In terms of the Source thing, I'd imagine anyone losing like that would feel some type of way. Biggie was that dude, had the bigger machine and had radio on lock. Most NY rappers wanted a piece of that, it wasn't just Nas.

I also firmly believe that if Biggie had lived, Life After Death would have received some vocal hate from "real hip hop" purists. The hard records on there are undeniable but there's plenty shyt on there that went faaaar more mainstream than anything Nas did on IWW.

No

BIG was already a commercial successful MC that was loved

Nas had and has different set of standards

He has never been allowed to go that route without critics panning him

songs like this I always give nikkaz:comeon: when they claim I Am is trash. Is it uneven maybe but half the tracks on it are very good or classic Nas songs
It think it had more to do with the songs that leaked that didn't make the album, but ended up later on the Lost Tapes.

I just kept scrolling down on my phone to get thru all this šŸ˜†, but I randomly saw ā€œNas signs deal for his memoirsā€ā€¦ what happened with that? We need that Nas book manā€¦especially if heā€™s gonna be candid

1- Scarf Hands deserves all the props for that. He had the vision and was proven right. I clearly remember girls becoming Nas Stans overnight on the strength of If I Ruled The World (girls bought records, guys bought the bootlegs).

2- A Hips Called Quest has said many times on his podcast that he was sitting on the same row as Nas and when Biggie ran the table that night Quest saw Nas's soul leave his body on some "I can't believe this shyt." Said his facial expression and mood turned sour when Biggie got Lyricist of the Year. (I was hoping the Wu series would cover this and why Nas became so tight with them. They shared a common enemy lol).

Scarf Hands did for Nas what Puff did for Biggie
Hell of a call back.

Yep shyt like Blaze a 50, The Game lives on aka Project Windows, Fetus, U Gotta Love it, Fetus, Rise & Fall were all over mixtapes at least by mid to late 98. Definitely helped build a buzz. Same thing happened to Murda Muzik :wow: . I Am selling that much in the 1st week despite all that crazy bootlegging was impressive. I used to fukk with a Colombian chick who had a I Am poster on her wall like yeah she a keeper:banderas::mjlol:

he had so many book deals that never materialized, i linked them above

'slave to a page: the book of rhymes mastermind' was supposed to be his first autobiography (2002 era)

'story of sekou' (2004) was supposed to be a fictional short story that nas was going to write to continue 'sekou story' from street's disciple

'it ain't hard to tell' was a 2012 era autobiography

it was already mentioned here but artists when they write books (or even do interviews) lose their mystique, but the effort of drafting out an memoir privately can help Nas turn some of those pages into records, even if the book stays unreleased. people be digging thru these pages to see if there was any incriminating evidence on others like what happened with prodigy's book and the book would be less epic without the inclusion of some of these spicy details that isn't really supposed to be told out there like that. plus, he would have to smooth over the details on what happened with cormega, nature, quan, az, lake, nashawn, etc not blowing up outside of 50 cent...nas was already somewhat writing his autobiography with his tracks talking about 40-16, etc and he would probably have to limit his autobiography up to 1995 before things got messy in the record industry with those manufactured beefs to sell records and 'divide and conquer' corporate strategies of cornering the market to make mainstream rap sound less intellectual today

This Kind of Love is Reach Out and Black James Bond is The Black Bond...Nastalgia was an album title he was gonna use in the early 00's (along with Nas Writes No More when he was thinking of retiring I guess)...Nastalgia is a dope title, he should still use that...My Vantage, Knighthood, Blazing Scriptues and Q.B Confidential sound kinda fake/internet-y to me but they are dope song titles lol
