Ran KD2 back this morning at the gym and its classic. The way him and Hit put it together is incredible. One underrated feature of Nas is he crushes his own hooks. He can carry a complete song effortlessly. The dude is the goat.
Yep I actually feel like his hook game has gotten even better over these last 3 albums.

Nas said something interesting on the Common episode of his podcast about his writing and recording techniques currently. Basically he jots down lines and ideas hears a beat and if it fits he puts it up there while freestyling the rest. He's the Goat and can obviously get away with doing that because he's at a mastery level but then I got to wondering, what does a Nas with a pen and pad and headphones on listening to instrumentals sound like?? He's still great but I understand now why he's not as technical as he use to be or as descriptive.

he sounds like it was written & illmatic. You already know what that sounds like.

Scatter brain ass Nore interrupting Shan before he could tell a Bridge 01 story, which was presumably gonna be a Nas story.
:francis:

Man I like Nore and generally think people exaggerate how he messes up interviews, but that pissed me off so much. He actually interrupted a Nas story to ask Shan to tell a Nas story. And then we never got a story. Efn should've made sure they went back to that one.

Would love to hear that attention to detail as a 48 year old.. I get it tho, dude has so much other stuff going on he isn't sitting around bussing his brain writing a thousand bars and trying to come up with the most craziest songs conceptually anymore. Still putting out great work nonetheless.

Yea I think in particular the day and age of this audience of rap probably wouldn't appreciate it as much today. It such a microwavable era. I think he has found a way to be lyrical with substance but make it digestible to today's audience. I've found that the younger people reviewing his music appreciate what he is saying even more.

Or a Nas that actually takes 3-4 days to a week writing a song as opposed to just coming up with ideas during studio sessions and jotting them down real quick then looking for beats that compliment them while freestyling the missing rhymes, :ohhh: .

I remember reading Nas say he only writes in the studio now and he doesn't really like being there, lol. I think that's changed since linking with Hitboy...but I think the reason we don't hear the super duper technical mind blowing shyt is because he's just about catching a vibe in the studio and then recording it nowadays...which is cool if that process works for you, which it clearly is for Nas musically. I'd still love to hear him write some shyt that sounds like it took some time though. Lupe said some songs he writes be taking a month to finish, :wow:, imagine if Nas was on that time.

Exactly.. I say this respectfully to him but he's probably operating at about 30% of what he's actually capable of and the music is still coming out fire lol

The lesson by Nas on MasterClass was just like what he said in the Common interview. Will have a few lines written down he thinks will suit the beat then rest is built on in the studio. Beat constantly on loop while Nas adds a new line, removed an older line, re arrange, takes recommendations from Hit Boy Was cool to watch
