That's it.

People forget that Takeover was that vicious, it was kinda over for him, he was in the gutter. 'I Am' didn't have the reception that the last album had.

He was on the floor for the count, somehow got up and Ether resuscitated everything. The public swayed back to Nasir and the rest is history.
U mean Nastradamus. I Am had great reception. And did better critically than IWW actually.

yoo, I got in...I just emailed the site admin and he got me an exception to join

I listed a bunch of unreleased nas joints still in the vault to keep track of...Nas has 150+ tracks, that's ~8 albums with 20 songs each

EDIT: does anybody have the uncensored version of Escobar 97? [actually, i'll post in the thread about songs I can't find]

This narrative never made any sense to me.

I am was critically acclaimed when it dropped. Got a 4.5 Mic rating in the Source when that magazine still meant something to the culture. I am also was Nas’s biggest first week sales of his career to date and outsold Jay-Z’s Vol 3 first week. Say what you will about Nastradamus but it made Nas one of only TWO rappers at time who had ever put out two Platinum albums in the same year.

So how is a man who put out not one, but TWO platinum albums the last time he released “down for the count”? How Sway:gucci:
To be fair Nastradamus was so bad it def turned people off, plus the sound of rap had changed and the newer guys (X and Jay) had the streets. I don’t think Nastradamus going plat was super impressive in that era, on a major label where shipments alone were gonna yet you a plaque regardless.

And while I Am isn’t as bad as people act it was still generally just a good or “ok” album. I remember the narrative at the time. Nas has plenty of fans but DMX was...well, DMX. And Jay was a close #2. Then by 2001 there was Jada, Em (if you count him...) etc. Kids I went to school with weren’t checking for Nas. And then when Stillmatic hit they were all blasting Got Yourself A Gun. It’s definitely a comeback in that sense.

Because people cant think for themselves, so they go with narratives instead of having their own opinion.

Nah i mean both those albums. I Am was somewhat regarded by the media and the publications, the streets/consumers half felt I Am, but not to the same levels as It Was Written imo. Nastradamus was received poorly.

Nah im going exactly off what was happening with what people were going with. Nas wasn't the top dog at all after I Am and Nastradamus...at all.

Dropped Ether and he was back like Rick James when Hammer dropped.

Jay wanted to follow in Nas footsteps, so I'm not surprised he went after her. I'm sure it wasnt hard to smash a Carmen back in the day.

Once again, this isn't a discussion regarding who is better or not, it's what was happening at that time.

Get the mans dikk out your mouth for just one second, fukken hell, shyt is outrageous.

Son let me tell u something. EVERYBODY had I Am on the streets. Do u know how many times I had to dub that shyt for people? Do u know how many people I knew has that as their fav Nas album? The hood fukked wit that album heavy. The songs that people hate on online. Like Money Is My bytch. People fukked wit heavy on the streets. When nikkas act like that album wasn’t received well I tend to wonder a few things. How old were they? How young were they? Where are they from? And were they outside? And the sound ain’t “move on” from then either. Not when X was dropping And Then There Was X that same year. Ruff Ryders Vol. 1. And shyt. As far as wack. Jay’s Vol. 3 has wacker songs on it than the worst song on Nastradamus. Where was all the hate at for that?

Nastradamus wasn’t received well but it wasn’t HATED either. And I Am was hot on the streets. Wasn’t no “half” shyt. Lol. I was a DJ at the time my guy. U had people who didn’t like it. But they were in the minority. There wasn’t no fukkin narrative for Nas like he fell off or some stupid. nikkas copped that bootleg I Am and turned right around and copped the retail and fukked wit both of them. Why u think even after the bootleg flooded the streets and the internet that shyt STILL ended up being one of Nas’ highest selling albums to date?. And like I said before. Jay had songs on Vol. 3 worse than any song on Nastradamus. I Am >>>>>> Vol. 3.

And that baby seat shyt was said AFTER Ether so how was nikkas like “it’s bad for Nas” after that? U all over the place fam. Super Ugly was NOT received like greatly and at that point nikkas was calling Nas the winner of the battle. Stillmatic was out and making its rounds by the time Superugly dropped. Ur memory is trash brodie. Or u real young speaking on some shyt u was too young at the time to understand.

Nah it isn't 'brodie' wtf is that?

'Because you-know-(who) did you-know-what with you-know-who
But let's keep that between me and you' - Jay Takeover.

Then it started leaking about Carmen after everybody was trying to work out that line.

If you was a dj of some calibre you would have known that.

So don't insult my intelligence.

And just so all you Nas bots don't come at me, Ether is my shyt and i keep saying, he won and he's a goat. So fall the fukk back. Goddamn.
