As i’ve stated before. I honestly don’t think Nas is as attached to those songs as some of his fans are. Nas is always about moving forward and for an MC as gifted as he is at painting a picture on past events, he’s never allowed himself to become trapped WITHIN those events, thats why he’s been as successful as he has been the past 30 years. Going back to the well and pushing old songs is only going to make the “Nas only sounds good with Premier, Pete, Large Pro” coalition feel validation. Nas just won a freaking Grammy working with a producer who was able to successfully merge his pristine lyricism with modern production. Thats the wave Nas is on. Play the Clue Tapes for old verses
@Ziggiy I think you are missing my point. This is not about the old verses. This is not about gaining new fans, winning awards, or even streams. I'm talking about adding more to his legacy. Pac, as adored as he is, got an even greater following after death, due to the depth of his unreleased material. I remember people back then and even to this day still believing that he is alive. The mystery behind it and all of that those discussions help to embellish and extend his legacy. In Pac's case, it helped to catapult him into the GOAT conversation. Nas fans and countless others know Nas has tons of unreleased music. In fact, if you notice, the question about his unreleased catalog is asked more and more in interviews these days. Even the producers are asked about having music with Nas or reveal that they have unreleased music with Nas... and they speak on it unprovoked.
Whatever Nas does with his unreleased music, whether it be periodically releasing it in LT volumes or stockpiling it all for eventual and inevitable posthumous releases. There is a significant value in releasing it and not just leaving it in the vault. Are we in agreement that Nas is a critically acclaimed artist/poet? Well not releasing it is likened to (maybe to a lesser degree) not releasing some of Mark Twain's never before discovered shyt. Nas's legacy is solid and he is my undisputed GOAT. He is in most real fan's top 5 and in damn near everyone's top 10. IMO, he should never let the conversation of his unreleased music die down. He should keep it alive and ensure that it, however, he decides to use it, helps to further his legacy.
