We dont know when its gonna be possible to tour again, a few big acts released albums anyway during the pandemic (Lady Gaga, Future...)
I dont see why Nas couldn't. Thats an opportunity to snatch a #1 spot with good promo and a hot single (the summer anthem produced by Hit-Boy featuring Big Sean ?) if there isnt much competition.

Nas and Hov are both in line to be the first hip hop artist with an #1 album in four different decades, thats quite the accomplishment. It will be way more difficult for Esco tho, NASIR and Lost Tapes 2 weren't commercial succes.

To your first point

Nas has said he don’t give a fukk about going number 1. WE the fans/stans love to see him going number 1 because it says something about his continued impact and overall (mainstream) standing within the genre

But I think personally (this is just an opinion) that Nas and his team care more about touring these days than album charting. Nas has a dedicated fanbase that will sustain him for the rest of his life, that in itself is an INCREDIBLE accomplishment, and the best say to eat off of that is through shows and touring. Thats why I feel touring is more important than just throwing an album out to get a number 1 spot.

think about it, artists don’t get paid shyt but peanuts for streaming. Having a number 1 album doesn’t MEAN as much as it did even ten years ago. Its about moving Merch, hosting gigs, touring , and diversifying your business ventures. Nas has ALL of that. He’s got the Nasir online store where you can get physical CDs, Vinyl, and cassettes. He’s got Queensbridge Ventures, he’s got Mass Appeal (which is taking a minor rep hit online right now for lack of diversity and mistreatment of former BLACK employees so that may need some tightening up) and he tours extensively. Whats the point of putting out an album and people who’ve lost their jobs can’t afford to buy merch? Everything is shut down so he can’t tour internationally? Even if the album goes number 1 there’s no real money in it, so what would be the point?

As a Nas stan, if he announced he was dropping an album tomorrow i’d buy it no questions asked. But from a business standpoint the question is does it make sense right now?

A tour can happen at anytime tho. And at this point does he even needs new material to tour ? I feel like the new album is not even that relevant to his ability to tour or not. So might as well release it when its ready and when he feels like it, pandemic or not.
If the original plan was this summer then roll with it but then again we dont know if there's any plan and if he has an album ready or not. Its just speculation at this point.

We know too much, we seen too much
:ahh:

This was at the height of the aftermath of 9/11 and the infancy of the Iraq War. Nas stuck his neck out and was anti war and reiterating Americas faults on our own soil.

“Yo, nikkas ain't forget shyt, know what I'm saying?
nikkas ain't forget nothing
Men, women and children killed by the police and shyt
nikkas ain't gon' forget that, you know what I mean?
Yo, what this war just show me is like, whatever you want out of life
Whatever you feel is rightfully yours, go out and take it
Even if that means blood and death
You know, that's what I was raised up on, that's what this country's about
This is what my country is, and my country's a motherfukker“
:wow:
