I hated this song so much, lol. I still don't like it but I don't hate it anymore, I respect what it is
I liked this song. It's really an old school vibe with the instrumentation. My mom loved this song. Also a great message considering fathers are very rarely perceived as positive in rap songs. Nas pushed the envelope with this one again.

I think a lot of Nas fans, who didn’t feel the Bridging the Gap song, we’re more upset because it wasn’t the Nas that they wanted or expected. We all love to hear Nasty Nas over something boom bap or gutter street shyt. I believe this is the case for Jarreau of Rap and the Nasir album as well. Nas is creative though. If he wasn’t, we wouldn't get songs like Rewind, I Gave You Power, One Mic and Blaze a 50.

Nas fans like that have no growth within themselves if they want him to sound the same for 30 years. His fans that's actually grow get what he tries to do as an artist.

People get too caught up on one or two songs that aren't that good and write the whole project off.

Nas is smart enough to where he never goes overboard with the experimentation and he'll give you the classic stuff you expect from it. "Bridging the Gap" was a single off Street's Disciple, but that album also had songs like "Message to the Feds," "Nazareth Savage," the title track, and "Thief's Theme." LT2 might have had "Jarreau of Rap" as a single, but it also had tracks like "Vernon Family," "Lost Freestyle," "The Art of It," "Highly Favored," and "It Never Ends." Just hard tracks where Nas went off. Even Nasir had "Adam and Eve," and "Echo" came out a few months later.

The man will never give us a Revival-type project. You're always getting Nasty Nas no matter what the album is. :wow:

...or maybe the song was just trash, lol. It's not always so extreme. I love madd joints where he showed "growth" and wasn't on no 30 years ago sound shyt...just not this song. Or the "Jarreau" joint. Or "New World". Etc... These shyts are just corny, imo. Still the best ever tho, everybody makes some trash

I'm not saying people that dont like that one individual song shows no growth. I'm saying people that don't like him going outside the boom bap box at all show no growth. Ofcourse there are always songs that people wont like from artist. But nas seems to be an artist that gets put in one box throughout his career.
